Final 9-11 Monument Images... For now, including my favorite

Last night I went up to Lakewood's 9-11 Monument to get a shot of it in the dark with no
one around. Just to help close out this series of images for the online gallery. So I climbed in
the car and drove up at 9:30...

So I did some tests, and talk with people hearing amazing stories of where they were and
what brought them to monument at 9:30? I do have to admit, the Monument takes on a
completely different feel in the dark.
So I left and came back and hour later...

09.11.2011 10:30 pm,
People still stopping by, and never a break in the "crowd." I spoke
with Fire Chief Scott Gilman and he mentioned there were people there all day, even in the
rain, stopping, looking, touching, and getting their photos taken in front of it.
So I left and came back...

More families, more stories, more and more people.
So I left and came back...

More and more people stopping, it was magical.

Midnight, and a woman and her daughter stopped to read the markers, and look at the beams. A couple more test shots, and a look at star walk, and figured maybe 3 am...

No one around at 3 am on the 12th.
A wonderful chance to reflect on not just the day, or the ten years since 9-11, but the hard
work and vision of the Lakewood Firefighters, headed by Fire Inspector Tim Dunphy that
even brought these two beams from the World Trade Center to Lakewood. The amount of
teamwork between the firefighters, going to pick up the beams, bringing them back.
Watching the construction of this memorial from concept with the help of Lakewood High
School art students, to watching Lakewood city workers breaking their ass in hot weather
doing some dangerous work to get this done in time and right. To the wonderful unveiling
event that saw so many Lakewoodites show up for a first glimpse of what so many had
worked so hard on. And now this, and endless stream of people, and tears, and stories,
and memories being recalled and built.
To EVERYONE involved Thank you, it is magnificent, and is something Lakewood, all of
us can be very proud of.
DAMN I LOVE THIS CITY!
