All
Hard to believe that summer just flew by! Only 109 days left until Christmas! And 115 until it's time to break out those New Year's resolutions for 2012! How did you do on your resolutions for 2011? Me personally I could have done better on all of them. So some will make the 2012 list. I suppose that is one of the beauties of life. "The sun will come up tomorrow, bet your bottom dollar, there'll be sun..." And so it goes.
People wonder why I care so much and it's because Lakewood is where I make my home and make my stand. I know we have everything here anyone would would need over the next 50 years. What we have is a city that needs to focus on what it is they're supposed to do, which is provide services to residents and the businesses.
All in all we head off to the season of crisp nights that lead into the hibernation of winter in pretty good shape. And that is a good thing.
This issues celebrate many of the fun things happening around town, and shares some deeper insights into where we could be headed.
As always thank you to everyone that participates in this Project. I know many hate the term project, but you have to understand, the paper is just one small part of the paper. The Deck, where leaders, residents and businesses have a chance to interact, taking ownership of their words and ideas, the Business Directory providing everything from listings to free websites, the community coffees, and the exchange between non-profits and the community they serve, are just the beginning of a very long list that was laid out over 8 years ago, when civic leaders working together decided it was more important for a community to talk and report on what they were doing firsthand, than have a corporate mouthpiece from the Sun or PD come in and put their spin on it. Yes, 8 years ago we took the bold step to make it clear that no one knows Lakewood better than Lakewoodites, and with each issue, we prove that to be true.
Thank you to Margaret, Maggie, Betsy, Deb, Melissa(!) and everyone that makes this project possible. From the city official with the phone call, to the mother on the street talking about what happened at the PTA; a city that has learned to talk about, and own its ideas, is truly ready for the future together.
peace/love
