An Open Invitation To School Board Members and Candidates

I've contacted school board members who will be serving next year and asked them to meet with me to discuss how current candidates (if elected) can work with the current board to build on their success and meet future challenges.
I thought it a good idea to invite all candidates as well. This is your invitation. If you are interested just send me a private message. Dates and times are flexible.

I would imagine that
Accountability and Transparency will be some of the building blocks to meet future challenges.
Matt Markling injected his ideas and opinions into school board discussions/meetings and look the at the resulting damage:

Has anyone taken you up on your offer, Bill? I think it would be great if we all chimed in here--publicly on The Deck.
It is important that a school board be able to work together on decisions that will most benefit Lakewood students and put the needs of our kids first. Good leaders are able to bring varying perspectives and beliefs to the table without letting them get in the way of the process or the work that needs to be done. I reject the notion that everyone on a school board should have the same philosophies or be good friends to be effective. In fact, I believe that most people want diversity and the lack of it for so many years has led to a distrust of many of the most recent board decisions. Accountability and trust is gained by having a school board that is made up of varying opinions who are willing to listen to constituents and to each other. There is risk when everyone thinks alike or when current school board members hand-pick candidates, either through endorsements or appointments, to keep the status quo. There are so many challenges to public education from many different fronts. School districts will be in need of school board members and administrators who understand the current school climate, who are creative and willing to be resourceful, and who are willing to support alternative solutions other than the “business as usual” approach.

Not yet.

Bill,
You might want to use a different method. Of the other candidates, only Kristine Pagsuyoin and Linda Beebe are LO Members listed in the directory...and of those two, only Kristine has posted in this forum in recent years. It is unlikely that Gregory "Woody" Calleri, Emma Petrie-Barcelona and Tom Einhouse are even aware that an invitation has been extended.

Thanks, Scott.
We have a great team in place and I am excited to see Jeff Patterson take the helm of the Lakewood City Schools.
