Around 2 pm a nighbor on Thoreau smelled smoke and called the Lakewood Fire Department.

Image
Which was a good thing because even though you could not see it, you could smell it.

Image
Then opening the back door it billowed out.

Image
It seems the fire was within the wal structure very close to the air conditioner.

After removing some wood they got the hoses.

Removed some more wood and check things out.

You can see the charring on the wood.

Finally the fire was pronounced out. These are the kind of fires that can cause havoc
in a city like this. Old wiring, possibly, with the flames allowed to run up the walls.
On Thoreau the homes are about 30' apart so the flames could have jumped easily.
I know my wires get hot sometimes from the sir conditioner, well today, I will stop that.

Image
While sometimes it sounds corny...

Image
... when you see them in action is is not hokey at all. Firemen risk their lives everyday
so that we do not have to. Thank you.

Great work Lakewood Fire Department, to the neighbor that called and to Hillary from
LakewoodAlive that stopped by and told the fire department the house had two dogs that
she knew about! Thanks to that, both dogs found and in good shape.

Jim--- What was so amazing, and- impressive about this incident is that I was listening to this on the scanner as it unfolded. I heard the LFD engines respond from the Main Fire Station. I was just about to head over there and see what was up when a LPD officer said succinctly, "fire's out."

Like you said, the houses are close so respond BIG even if it turns out small.
