need furniture refinishing recommendation

Is there a place in Lakewood that fixes furniture. I know this might be a little out of the ordinary in a place where most furniture just ends up on the tree lawn, but I've got a heirloom rocking chair that needs a professional hand getting back off the DL.

Lakewood Upholstery 15701 Madison 221-2377 (From the Old House Fair/MAMA Guide)
Stop by a business on Madison today for your copy, or download here

both were done perfectly, for a damn good price.

If it's an important heirloom to you, and you want the absolute best quality work to be done (and you are not talking about the upholstery), I recommend you contact Jeff Jewitt at Homestead Finishing.
He
might be able to do the type of "
fix" you are looking for.
The shop is off Madison in Cleveland kinda behind Cleveland Lumber.
Jeff Jewitt is an author of many woodworking/finishing/re-finishing books and videos,
a regular author in FineWoodworking magazine and is highly regarded across the country.
In addition, he is an instructor at some of the top woodworking schools in the country.
Homestead also has their own line of products. Contact info can be found here:
http://www.homesteadfinishingproducts.comThere is also a forum there where you might be able to post questions about your rocker.
Being a woodworker, I know he is regarded as one of the best of the best.
I know it's not a Lakewood business, but the
tie-in to lkwd is that he is a regular at Spin Bike shop; also regarded as one of the best of the best...
I have no affiliation to Homestead Finishing.

It's been a while, but Lakewood Upholdstery did nice work on two pieces for us, a daybed and a scroll chair.

I've been very impressed with Homestead Finishing. If he doesn't do the work himself, I'm sure he could give some good contacts.

I have heard good things about a little shop just south of I-90 on W159th, Anything Worth Repairing.

I have some very old dining room chairs that need to be tightened up. Sounds like Lakewood Upholstery could do the job. I always thought from their name they only handled upholstery and never thought of them as an option for this type of service. This is great information and the MAMA list is very impressive.

Anything Worth Repairing, W159 @ I-90, does excellent wood refinishing and furniture repair at a very good price. They are also generally very backed up. We've had good work done on antique furniture over the years.

Thanks, looks like I'll give Lakewood Upholstry a try, but I've got another chair that might need Homestead Finishing.

Maybe you’ll enjoy this. I needed several chairs recaned a few months back, and jumped on Craigslist to see if I could find anyone.
I ran into:
http://peacefultimes.org/Chair_Repair.phpJohn is in Strongsville, he works out of his home. He will knock apart a chair and reglue it solid as a rock for about $25, maybe a bit more. Recaning is $1.50 a hole, just turn the chair upside down and count. Check out the pix, a couple of those are my (and my mom’s) chairs.
It’s not Lakewood but he’s a good guy, he will do whatever to make you happy. I don’t know that he is into “refinishing” but so often refinishing is a big mistake when it comes to the look and value of an old piece. If you mean stripping and new stain/varnish that is. He does apply some stuff to kind of moisten and restore the existing finish, and in my experience that is almost always what should be done. Nothing more. Honor the imperfections, that is what makes an original piece original. But make it solid to sit on.
My experience was great though expect it to take 2-3 weeks or so. He’s one of the good guys….
