Stephen
Well four of them have.
But your myopia misses the entire point.
This was but one small but public case. Go back and read my thread.
In a project that guarantees EVERYONE(but my family I guess) a seat at the community table to discuss their ideas, opinions, thoughts and more, why are not more outraged by the attacks against free speech?
Have you ever been censored or turned down on your efforts to post or express yourself? Have I called your wife or employer and threatened any actions if you do not stop posting? Have anyone on this board threatened your lively hood or well being? Well the advisory board cannot answer no to those questions?
So not only are some trying to silence and/or marginalize the board, this then is also an attack on their first amendment rights. Is it not? Or have you become so polarized that you only car about the rights of like thinking people?
Let's go one step further, to what end or to what purpose? While it personally disgust me that people attack and spew hate through faux names, would it be better that we all do that? I mean why not just wear the white hood of hate, stay in the closet of fear.
As I said, this was not merely reaction to the Obama sign, but much much bigger. Think of the societies and groups that have tried to stop public discussion, think of where they were headed and to what end.
For you and others, it is just a quick pop in to the Deck for a quick post or quip. For others it is an exercise in free speech for all, not just the chosen few. Why Ryan, and Colleen ran for office, it seemed they loved the freedom of speech they were given in the paper and online. Now that "the other side" might possibly benefit from this freedom, calls of outrage are dished out. For one simple end, get the sign down, some sign down, any sign down.
Let's take it to a metaphor you might understand better. Because Deb does not own a gun, or how to use it, should we make others give up theirs? Go back and read the posts, try to walk away from your political beliefs and look at it as an American.
Maybe it is better that we look at this through something as insane as an 11" x 17" sign, that's only real action is a call to VOTE. You drive by my house, I am sure you noticed my wife's other signs. Register to Vote, no candidate mentioned. Remember to vote, no candidate mentioned.
My question, and very much the question the "little" board will look at, is have I lost my right to speak, because of the Observer? Will the city ever understand that all we expected was that those that worked so hard for this public forum, would also have a seat at the table, or should the be excluded?
The Observer is not dependent on this discussion, in fact, it is strengthened by it. Go make attacks or attack other media freedom's, it will be taken down, as it would at Cleveland.com, or any other site. Here it is raised on a pedestal, discussed openly, and I am sure some policy will come from it.
From there it up to participants.
So Stephen, do I have an equal voice to you? Does my wife?
Another interesting question would be why does the right work so hard to stop the free speech of a few.
