I talked with a couple of AT&T guys at Drug Mart. They said Lightspeed (U-Verse) should be going online later this month. (June)

I had also heard May/June timeframe from people I know at AT&T.

I guess I should expect my bill to be going up at lightspeed soon. After all concrete is not cheap.

The new boxes are even more unsightly than anything real, or imagined, on page one of this thread.

Fairview Park at least had them put underground.

These new box clusters don't look anything like what AT&T showed to Rocky River's city council.

How did Lakewood allow this to happen? Did the mayor, or council, know how crappy looking and obtrusive these boxes would be?

(It should be noted that councilman Mike Dever voted against these.)

Beautiful new schools, new library, new YMCA, new condos and other construction on Detroit, and somehow these AT&T eyesores keep popping up in every neighborhood in Lakewood.

Who can we vote for that will look out for us?

Councilman Dever's objections should be noted. What will they look like? Answer: about the size of a refrigerator. When will it end? Answer: 40 or so. How safe are they? Answer: Safe, about the same volts of a home air conditioner. Why can't they be put underground Answer: cost

Some of council that voted for this atrocity now lead the cry against shopping carts, graffiti, etc.

Let's think this one through. Lightspeed, copper wire delivered to the house from hundreds of massive installations around the city. No franchise fee, very little given to the city, no responsibility for removing the boxes if they prove old, not needed, dangerous, etc. COX Communications, High Speed Fiber to the house, and beyond. No acres of public land that devalues property, or is dangerous. Gave about $500,000 a years in goods and services to the community, and paid franchise fees.

Add in the lost revenue, that could have been charged to AT&T, the lost revenue from the pending lawsuit from COX. It was just a nightmare night at city hall. Money that could have been used to keep parks clean, pay for public art, more police...

I am sure I do not have all the facts that council had access to, but.

I originally thought that new little structure on Nicholson must be for park benches and kids' kool-aid stands. Now I realize that all the kool-aid had been distributed at city hall.

Did AT&T pay for the extra landscaping around the box at Nicholson and Lake or was it the city, I wonder. I sure bet it wasn't a noble, concerned landowner on the block.

Doubt it. As Jim O'Bryan points out, they're currently more worried about shopping carts.

Maybe if we could gather all the stray shopping carts around the AT&T Lightspeed boxes, and hang flower baskets on them, it would get their attention. (Now, THERE'S the photo!)

I'd welcome one of these Lightspeed boxes on my treelawn. I'd commission an artist to paint a well-maintained double on it.
