This is what happens with many of the Supercars, rarely Ferraris but even they have the same issue, as long as I can remember.

Real Bentley owners want new. So the next line are people that cannot afford a new one. Then comes the 4-6year mark, and the price falls through the floor. Why?

The tune up on a Bentley or Ferrari is about $3,000 - $5,000. Parts and pieces are insane. I remember waaaaaaay back int the 70s. A Rolls Royce, A Ferrari and a Fiat all ran the same oil filter. Fiat $4.00, Ferrari $40,00 Rolls Royce $60.00. Fram 7 oil filter. MGB rear tail light lens $60,00 Rolls Royce tail light lens, same as MGB upside down, $500.

So they fall into this strange land no one wants to touch them but fools and car lovers.

BUT, on the flip side, they often come back huge.

A Lamborghini Muira, could have been had for $8,000. Today $1 - $2 million. A Jaguar XKE early 80s, about $6,000 today as much as $100.000. A real Shelby Cobra, as low as $7,000, now as much as $2 million.

Only Ferrari seems to avoid a lot of this. Most of their models are appreciated from the time they were ordered to delivery, and continues up. However they do have some terrible models for resale.

We hit the 200 photo level in this thread and gallery with the elusive Bradley GT!

Image
Many a Father and son dreamed of building one of these back in the 70s. Every 14-22 year old who read Popular Mechanics, Popular Science, Road and Track, etc. dreamed of the car that "looked like a Ferrari, but costs were like a Volkswagen!"

The era of kit cars, when in fact many classics were kit cars like the AC Cobra. Fiberglass body on a tube frame OR another chassis.

First came the Manx Dune Buggy...

Image
Seen here in front of Woodstock Smoke Joint on Madison Ave.

A fiberglass shell on a Volkswagen chassis, and soon after the very stylish Bradley GT entered the scene, also built on VW chassis and engine.

Image
You can see why so many loved it. A Ferrari at the time was $40,000 - $60,000, this could be yours for $5,000, and "a couple weekends of labor."

Image
Unfortunately, they quickly became old news, as new kit cars emerged built on Nissans, Fieros, and even Jaguars. So for a wrecked rotted out Fiero, you could have a 3/4 size Ferrari Mondial for $10,000 instead of $100,000.

Image
Countach on Fiero chassis in Lakewood.

Image
While it looks pretty sparse, so were car dashboards in the 60s and 70s. Especially exotics.

Image
Which brings us to why they are so rare and elusive.

Image
Most of the "kit cars" ended like this one. A mix match of parts. This one has a VW chassis modified for a Corvair engine. Which would give Ferrari like speed, with VW like or worse 1965 safety equipment. If it ran. 99.9% of the people never bought one. 99.1 percent of those could keep them running. Not easy to sell one of cars when used and broken, most are rotting in lots, fields, barns etc.

Where the price of a kit car Cobra is as much as $100,000, this is more like $2,000 if lucky.

What drives through this community next?

... I figure best way to afford a Lamborghini is to work at Giant Eagle.

And amazing car from the Italian tractor company Lamborghini.

Lamborghini Aventador-S

That's pretty much what I would have imagined, 30 years ago, that a new car would look like in the year 2020.

And then appeared down the street old school American muscle!

Image
A 1965 Plymouth Barracuda! A car every boy and girl wanted when they first came out.

While Rambler came out with the first fastback headed to production with the Tarpon/Marlin...

Image
... nobody carried it off more futuristic and beautifully than Plymouth with this version.

Nice car.

nice car for sure but I'm still admiring the Mercury Meteor in Meg Ostrowski's article because I had a 1962 model that I bought for $100.

While driving down Madison Ave. I noticed this Triumph TR3-A (wide nosed)

Image

Image
Most of the "A" modifications revolved around a larger front radiator, and different grille. Hence the nickname "Widenosed."

Image
Triumph 3-As do not carry any badge stating that. The term was unofficial except in sales brochures describing the differences.

I always liked these little cars that retailed for around $2,000 in their day and a good one can fetch over $50,000 today.
