Is that new in the past 4 years? They didn't have it while I was there.

Shawn

Could be wrong, the CEO of AGS lives in Shaker Heights. I thought it was Cleveland Heights, he said Shaker does, not sure of Cleveland Heights.

Sorry.

Shaker sounds more likely.

Shelly

As you so gracefully brought it back on subject I have to admit I was wondering about this.

17. Q Are these barrels animal proof?
A They are the most animal proof barrels currently available. However, they are not bear proof.

Yes, we are in agreement. My point was that Lakewood doesn’t charge extra for trash removal.

Shelley Hurd wrote:But the Auditor of State did find one department thats cuck full of fat, waste...

That other department was reccomended in the Performance Audit to reduse 14 FTEs which would save this city about.... mmm.... @ +/- 1,050,000 (that’s a million +/- ) in just salaries alone

And that’s with out factoring all the overtime, retirement benefits and medical.... for the department the Auditor of State points to as FAT.

Maybe I’m missing something but I didn’t see one department where the AoS recommended a reduction of 14 FTEs. Forestry was recommended to cut 6 and Fire to cut 3.

Indeed you did miss

"LDF would need to reduce 14.0 FTEs to achive the peer average calls per FTE (87.9)" (page 6-7 Performance Audit)

Also of note
"The City contracted for Performance to look at selected areas for them." ( Robert R. Wilhelm,Chief Auditor--Cleveland Region )

The city chose what departments to look at, they were hoping ( I assume ) refuse would be a area they could target. Yet the Performance Audit pointed to other departments as Fat filled, bloated ,wasteful, inefficient.....

Jim - Yes, you did state that. I wanted to clear the air whether CH has backyard or not. I shouldn’t have used your quote. Bring back the edit button and it won’t happen again :)

"LDF would need to reduce 14.0 FTEs to achive the peer average calls per FTE (87.9)"

The rest of the paragraph states: “However, Kettering uses volunteer firefighters to supplement the full-time staff reported in Table 6-3. If Kettering were excluded, LDF would need to reduce 3.0 FTEs to achieve the average calls per FTE maintained by Cleveland Heights and Euclid (78 ).â€

You are Mistaken

Or Maybe those cities Fire Chiefs are wrong?

"Our current minimum manning is 16 per shift, made up of the following:
Three rescue squads with two persons each, for a total of six
Three fire apparatus with three persons each, for a total of nine
One command vehicle with an OIC (Officer in Charge) total of one
This is our staffing minimum, there are many days when we exceed this number." ( Tom Cosgriff, Euclid Fire Department)

"In Cleveland Heights we have 25 members assigned to each of three platoons. However, our minimum daily staffing (16) takes into consideration those members who are on vacation" ( Kevin Mohr, Cleveland Heights Fire Department)

It is ok, that you are confused though, those budget reports are misleading and can be confusing. Thats why its always best to confirm and get clarification form actual people.

But to get back to the topic at hand.

We are lucky here in Lakewood. We get quality service from our refuse department, the refuse department is one of the leanest departments in the city and changing this valued service is not warrented, wise nor based on finances.

And a picture is worth a thousand words and puts propoganda in perspective.

This system is gonna consume more of our time ,getting cans placed exactly properly, money from parking fines, ...and waaaay more involvment with neighbors then I can to have.

Picture your self asking your neighbor if you can put your extra garbage in their can.

Picture your self looking for paking that is "feet" away from any can.

Picture your self digging a special slot in the snow to place your can.

Picture Lakewood this time next year... wee big fun for you and me!

And lets not forget: Our Finance director agreed that back yard service is important to our city... Or did until....

Jennifer "“Pae says, “As a Lakewood resident, I know what I value in the community and what’s important to me.â€

Shelley

You seem very passionate about this topic.

I have been a Lakewood resident on and off my entire life.

I too treasure back yard pick up.

Do you have any dog in this fight?
