An introspective moment = Lakewood's "hamartia"
As a retired HS English teacher, I've always been enthralled by Greek tragedy. One of its key elements was that most of the key characters had an essential "hamartia"

"The term hamartia derives from the Greek ἁμαρτία, from ἁμαρτάνειν hamartánein, which means “to miss the mark” or “to err”. It is most often associated with Greek tragedy, although it is also used in Christian theology. Hamartia as it pertains to dramatic literature was first used by Aristotle in his Poetics" - Wikipedia

Usually this tragic flaw was "hubris" or inordinate pride but if you think about it, not telling the truth, either to others or oneself was tied in with pride. We as a country and a community are inundated by lies, some by omission, others by commission.

This lies at the heart of our distrust of law enforcement - some cannot be trusted to tell the truth. Politics has as its engine the driving force of disinformation, just another euphemism for lying. It seems that in order to participate in politics, one has to either be a passionately false sycophant or just plain false.

The Biblical commandment: "Thou shalt not bear false witness" is essentially a sanction against lying and is at its core articulated in some degree with the other remaining nine commandments. Excessive lying will usually lead to another element of Greek tragedy and that is "peripetia" (a sudden reversal of fortune or change in circumstances). Have you heard the phrase, "Oh! how the mighty have fallen?"

They (the mighty) may not see their fall in the present but it will surely happen in their future. Another connection I see and I was overwhelmed by it when I was a NYC photojournalist covering Bronx politics, is how the Biblical admonition, "The love of money is the root of all evil." Surely lying and money are bedfellows and not strange ones either. Actually they make for very good companions.

Is this what is happening in Lakewood? I haven't been here long enough (only 6 months) to have any personal experiences to speak of but I sure have heard a LOT of second hand accounts.

If you're reading this and you are a member/participant in Lakewood politics, do yourself a favor.

Don't be a tragic Greek figure. ;-)

This is the kind of light I'd like to catch within the confines of Lakewood.

Where you have money, you have exclusiveness. I saw the "light" today when I was refused entry to Clifton Park while on my bike ride down Lake towards Rocky River. I thought since I'm not going to use their facilities and am not driving a car, I would be okay

ACCESS DENIED

I guess that's one of the perks of having money but is Lakewood tax payer money being used to maintain this elite neighborhood?

Known as both Cleveland’s First Lady of Jazz and the Salsa Queen, Jackie Warren is one of the most in-demand pianists in the area.

Seems like deer are invading Lakewood, running right down major thoroughfares and even into downtown. When wild animals come into populated (by humans) areas in "the light of day", I wonder who's going to win out?

Not in Lakewood but my niece's wedding in WI where I ended up being the primary wedding photographer. My niece, grand nephew and sister in her wedding limo. The raindrops do nice things to light. ;-)

Sometimes animals don't like to have their privacy invaded. This was taken at the recent "Taste of Lakewood" event. I wonder what he/she was really trying to tell my camera? LOL

Here are some Lakewoodites who are "catching the light" and loving it at Around The Corner saloon/pub at their 6th annual beauty pageant

SUPER ZOOM ! ! ! ! !

Here is a sample of the super-zoom capabilities of the new Nikon Coolpix P900 shot in downtown Cleveland. I'm going to try to do a shoot like this from the top floor of my house in the eastern part of Lakewood. Surprisingly good resolution for a consumer camera such as this. It surely "catches the light" well!

4th of July in Lakewood

Clearly the 4th of July in Lakewood is the biggest and most joyful day on the calendar! When I was told that the crowds for the parade were going to be huge, they weren't lying! And the fireworks later that evening were longer and better than the ones I've seen back in NYC in my former neighborhood. Last but not least was the "Lakewood Project" a musical group that was alive with spunk and vitality.

All police officers should both look and be as cool as this young motorcycle cop I met at the 4th July parade! We talked about how to improve the lines of communication between law enforcement and the public

One of the new things that this long time apartment dweller from NYC is getting used to while "catching the light" is all the beautiful colors that only nature can provide. Gardening is a skill that one must learn but I have to admit, I'm really good at mowing the lawn. LOL
