See one of the secrets of the Observer Project is we do what we think we like and or care about. Not what you think or care about.

Instead we would hope you would do what you care about, and possible share what you find out through your eyes and experiences.

This is kind of new for people, we print on newsprint, and we do the news, but we do a hell of a lot more.

Ask Bill Call how it works, he has been working for what he cares about for over 10 years.

It is kind of amazing what you can assemble if we all just find what we can, and report back.

It's how we broke the LeBron James story.

Huh, sorry it was my misunderstanding that you where a newspaper. Didn't know you where flexible about citing (sp?) sources and people going on record. So I see how it works, people just ask questions and report back what they heard. Well that puts this thread to rest right? Good stuff, you can't make this up.

Personally I don't think it can be saved, Jim will back me on that right Jim? To me it's out of the realm of reality, but who knows maybe if we hear otherwise my perception would change on the matter. I've only heard one side of it so far. Do you think it can be saved?

You should probably read "Lakewood Observer, The Hyper-Local Dojo aka Jihad For The Other Guy" written about the Observer Project, what we are and how we do it.

The system is great for finding BS and fraudulent moments by people and groups, something we have a long history of.

It came about when three of us, invited 4 more that we didn't know, and 2 more into a group to address the needs and the problems of the city. The word "news" never appears in our mission statement, though we have broken most of the major stories out of Lakewood and some in Cleveland over the last 12 years. The entire program was the work of people far smarter than I, and it deals with more than news. It becomes a community assessment tool, that is almost never wrong, if you can read it. Ken Warren, Dan Slife were heavily into numerology, mythology, Astrology and eastern philosophy, so there is some of that woven in.

Think of it as Siskel and Ebert, over the course of time you really didn't know either one, but you came to know their persona, and theor strengths and weaknesses, and through that you could judge the movies they watched. To just stare at a snapshot in time is crazy, look at the entire work. Do a search for Corey, you can understand him in 35 posts. Read O'Bryan you can get me in 10. Read Foran, and you can see him for who he is, and on and on and on.

What we do, is more important that the news or real media. We can't be bought, and even if they can, they can't buy everyone, and at the end of the day the only thing that really matters is all of us. Right?

That's great Jim. My suggestion to you next time there is a hot button issue, or really any issue, in this city is to get people on record and cite your sources otherwise it's all what you said, which could (and is) be biased. I would assume that's what you learn in journalism 101 the first day there. Take care.

From what I understand, it's not worth saving. But if these folks want to make an attempt I'll cheer them on, and if Mike Skindell can help them, good for him.
The question was whether this was some sort of troll spoof - "candidate will say anything" - but now I see it is more nuanced.

First thing we need to do is find out who is the Admin of that Facebook page, then get them on record of what he was told. Simple as that. Well maybe not, anyone know who is the Admin of that page? Jim?

Near the end of the meeting, Charles Milsaps, the de-facto leader of the Save the Detroit Theater campaign who was also present at the workshop...

I was looking up articles on the Save the Detroit Theater movement and found the above quote. I wonder if Charles Milsaps knows the Admin of the The Historic Hilliard Square Theater Facebook page since he lead the Save the Detroit Theater campaign? Is he a member of the deck? I'll keep digging.

I realize now that the talk on this thread is about mayoral politics, not the Hilliard Theater. But I just want to remind anyone who is reading, the Hilliard can be the centerpiece of the arts scene on the west side, and certainly a shot in the arm for lakewood. For all the naysayers, the work required would be a new roof and a new ceiling. There have been theaters in much worse shape that have been restored. But if it goes, it's gone forever.

Todd, Love the graphic. The first thing I saw was "Lousy for Lakewood," and then I saw "Mayor Mike Summers." I had to look a little closer to determine that you are for him.

On the theater, if the owners have a vision for it, and if they can make it happen, who the hell are you, me, Mike Skindell, that social media guy who works as a building inspector, or anyone else to tell them what to do. This ain't the West End Project anymore.

No matter what, it appeared as an ad, and needed proper disclaimer which would be "Who paid for by" Which is one of the big flaws also in the newspaper. I support 1st amendment projects that are accountable. The final piece in the whole puzzle with that is mailing. Was the political box checked to expedite mailing.

This underlines this entire debacle, the most screwy deal in the history of Lakewood, maybe the state. Good people walking along, and they break the law. OK that's not good, then more people come along and defending their lawlessness and break more laws, just as another group op people come with a mob mentality and break more laws trying to help the other law breakers. Welcome the Lakewood Hospital 2015. But only one group is breaking the rules, and we elected them. Lakewood needs to get a hold of itself and take a breath.

Business are allowed to post ads in the business section. Once in a blue moon an ad might pop up here that was left out of the paper by mistake, and family events.

We really try to keep the site ad free. It is not because people haven't asked. We want to offer a place to get away from the bombardment.

Maggie Fraley heads up our ad sales and you can reach her for ads in print and or online but not the Deck.
