Suzanne,

Who's the "we" in "we're"? What ARE you, and the "we", after?

I guess you've made my point. If this were a community board, and if I were part of a WE then what I would want is exactly what I layed out. "An advisory board that could set policies that would reflect the mission and vision of the forum."

However, as you've pointed out, that's not the case.

Suzanne,

There is no "I" in team, but there is one in community. Your "I" has had every opportunity to participate in this community forum, and in the paper. There is no doubt that you have participated.

Participants have a voice here. Non-participants have none. NOBODY is getting EXACTLY what they want, or have "layed [sic] out", including the owners.

I did not point out anything in my previous post. I asked two questions.

Steve, I made a statement and you asked a question. The answer to the question was in the statement I made. Next time when you ask me a question, could you also supply me with the answer you want? Suzanne

1,800 + have taken part, some of your friends and colleagues.

Strong members of the library, that board, and LCPI and you call them all into question for working on a totally positive project for the city though it keeps you to only one voice.

pitiful

Board that you hate or board that you love, some decisions are going to be made regarding posts on the Deck by the Admins and those decisions are going to be made on the fly because posts go live when somebody hits "send".

Again and for the last time:

I understand the policy. I understand why the policy. I think that others, who don't understand the policy or why the policy, make assumptions about posting here. Those assumptions lead to misunderstandings.

Jeff made a statement. I made a statement, I was asked a question, I answered the question. I refuse to spend time trying to figure out what answer will yield the loudest applause, the biggest reaction, or the most support. Am I wrong sometimes? Absolutely.

The fact remains "some decisions are going to be made regarding posts on the Deck by the Admins and those decisions are going to be made on the fly because posts go live when somebody hits "send"."

No personal remarks, no veiled threats, no nonsense. Excellent answer - thank you DL.

But, if none of the present advisory board are a part of that process, certainly everyone will agree with whatever decisions are made and issues of control, agenda, censorship and the like will cease to exist. :? Right?

Let's face it DL, we simply won't be able to make everybody happy, no matter how hard you try. I mean you can mortgage your paid off house to finance a project and it may not be enough. We could spend countless hours in countless meetings, gratis, and it still may not be enough. Sacrifice time better spent in compensable activities and it isn't going to be enough. You just can't do enough to make everybody happy.

On the other hand, it's far easier to make people unhappy. And given human nature, there's a greater liklihood that a volunteer gets criticized when someone is unhappy than being thanked for at least putting forth the effort. You bake chocolate chip cookies for the fifth grade party......someone will complain that you should have made oatmeal raisin.

This thread has taken a ridiculous turn.

A memorial fund was set up at National City Bank.

Well, it seems to me that this entire line of discussion is going a long way towards making just about everyone unhappy.

Now, where was my banjo?

However...

Before we can sing Kumbayah again, I think we need to sing another song first.

What that might be, is for you to decide.

As for me, I like the Prayer of St. Francis:

Make me a channel of Your peace...

You know..when you are working with non-profits or in the business community you can only do your best...and do what you think is best. Your never going to please everyone. You may only please a few people...but if feel that you have done the best you can..there is nothing more you can do. I think you should be very comfortable with the decisions that you have made!

The advisory board has done a great job!! Congratulations! Thank you for all of your efforts to make this board a place for open discussion.

You have sacrificed a great deal of your personal time and probably even more than I know. I think it's high time that someone thanks you for all of your time and effort.

Can we conclude this thread and move on?

What I would like to know -does anyone know where I can donate money to help pay for this child's funeral expenses? Would anyone care to join me? That is what we should be about in this stream.

I mean, some drunken idiot from Cleveland took it upon himself to come into our town and destroy a life on a pleasant spring evening, right before our eyes.

How can we help these families and say something positive about ourselves as concerned citizens- which I believe every single one of you are?

Has anyone heard where I can send my check?

Which I believe is something you are taught in the first 10 minutes on your first day of Journalism 101. Some realities cant be changed.
I hope a bit of humility sinks in in some quarters.

I do encourage everyone to make a donation to the familys fund.

Its a shame two topics merged so weirdly but all things need to be expressed.
