The division is right down the middle of the street.

Think back when Dave was assaulted, and the debate with police was over which side of W117 it actually happened on.

I believe it is sad that Lakewoodites care so little over loosing such a great historical narrative.

Not if we annex them first! And now is the time.

One night I was unveiling one of the "guerrilla" project I feel compelled to try now and then. That night it was annexing Cleveland with the help of the Rockport Militia.

The idea for the film, and documentary was simple enough. Early Sunday morning 50 or more militia would climb into buses and cabs, even walking to W45th and set up blockades that say "Welcome to Lakewood."

Militia members would be kind and lean over to motorists and walkers handing them welcome to Lakewood booklets. Point out the niceties of Lakewood, schools, etc. Monday morning the flyers would be delivered by mail to all residents in Lakewood's newest 5th Ward. While Lakewood pushes to annex, we get the residents pushing to secede from Cleveland. Lakewood gains the Water Plant and pumping station, allowing us to control water prices and our future. Another theater, more churches, some land banked areas for the big box stores some crave, and the prize Vila Zapata!

Ken Warren that night sent me a link I am looking for, where a person had studied Cleveland and it's dismal future back in the 70s I want to say. In it he goes onto the fall of Cleveland based on decisions made that had made it a industrial town and how it would shed residents, and become to large to sustain itself with, low or no wage earners. The only way for Cleveland or the county to save itself was to annex Cleveland. One example used was Lakewood. He had based it on square mileage and density. My plan was based on the beaches, social structures, and WATER. Perhaps Ken can find the link, I will look later today.

Since that time we have other projects for the Rockport Militia, grabbing West Park before every Cleveland Fireman and police officer moves. West to Wagar Road, ending the dog park dispute and controlling both sides of the cliffs!

While they regionalize and get week, we grow and get stronger.

In the scenario you describe, the following might occur:

It would seem that Lakewood Police Dept., would have to have a talk with CPD 1st District police officers, to change their designation to Lakewood 2nd District, quit the CPPA, get the Ohio Peace Officer's Training Counsel in Columbus to change their status to Lakewood Police Officers, and join LPD's union... (whew)..... since a possible scenario would be some busy body Clevelanders might call CPD on the Rockport Militia. Then the jurisdiction would go up to the next law enforcement entity up the ladder, the County Sheriff's Dept., then the State.

Then there's the Cleveland firefighters and EMS personnel.

It might take a bit more than some flyers, doncha think?

Not really.

Ken thought capes might help. Ala James Brown, but this is the start, not an encore.

Some of us thought brocures were overkill.

Steve Davis who would print them, thought matchbook covers might be all we need.

Something catchey like "Strike it Hot in Lakewood, the city that is good enough for now."

Speaking of annexing…There are some houses on the south side of Riverside near Hogs Back that are part of Cleveland.

Before they were built, the Rainbow Gardens was there and during prohibition, it was a speakeasy. (A place where they would serve illegal spirits.) I wonder if those residents would like to be part of Lakewood. Hey Jim, since they live on your street, would you ask them to join us?

I haven't heard one Council or Mayoral candidate address the very important Highland Avenue issue.

Why the silence?

hmmmm. maybe because, being for changing the name will only win or secure 1 or 2 votes and everyone else would be wondering what the heck they were talking about.

Then I'd say it's worth it!

Candidates, step up and grab a couple votes!

The name change and new signage could be the most unifying project in Lakewood the coming year. Election season has NOT been unifying.

Secure our border. Take back Highland Avenue!

Michael,

You are the coolest!

When you run again, you'll at least have my vote.

Steve-

I was about to take a position on this issue, but my understanding is that the mayor has a devastating attack ad ready to mail which exposes my secret plan to eliminate all Lakewood street names.

Pretty funny.

I understand the delicate nature of these things, especially with only days to go in this election cycle.

As you know, there are as many as tens of people ready to get behind this issue. We all look forward to your support.

I've got to admit, though, Michael Dever has done a lot of the heavy lifting on this one already, but he can't do it alone.

Our history has been stolen. TAKE BACK HIGHLAND AVENUE for Lakewood!
