Shawn

Although we are not related it is amazing after speaking with you that we about but one degree of separation, which was very fun to find out. In fact we share history. Just another thing that makes Lakewood intersting and fun.

My grandmother came to Birdtown to live, when she was 15 or 16 around 1916. She met my grandfather who lived in Birdtown, who was approx 15 or more yrs. older than her and lived there several years before she came to it.

According to my mother, there were many families there at the time, and some I'm sure were there several years before my grandfather arrived there.

Well, it's time for this thread to float to the top again. There are new and positive developments.

Apparently, our brave Councilpersons, Dever and Madigan, recently went on a diplomatic mission to meet with some representatives of a planning group just east of our border with Cleveland. After agreeing on a meeting location and on the shape of the table for these important talks, our emissaries participated in progressive discussion about the Highland Corridor AND new signage that recognizes historic Highland Avenue. There was actual talk of recognizing the name on BOTH sides of the street.

With this new spirit of cooperation between Lakewood and Cleveland, we may be able to call for a cautious stand down of the Rockport Militia. Hopefully, the two cities can move beyond the strict W. 117th Street or DMZ designations to include the historic name of Highland Avenue.

I have asked Councilman Dever to include me in future talks.

I am very optimistic, but we will not rest until there are tangible signs that verify the end of the 4 hectare land grab by Cleveland.

Steve, I strongly dislike living in a community that doesn't care enough to name its streets.

This outrage has gone on long enough. Highland Avenue must be recognized and I know you will hardly sleep until this issue has been resolved.

Thanks, DL. It's good to know that someone else understands the gravity of this situation.

Again, no Lakewood business or person should ever have to reside on a numbered street. It is not part of our culture.

:? Steve, your offer to be included in the discussions shows your concern and valor. However, those slant eyed, shifty Clevelanders could take you hostage under the guise of some bogus pretext.
This would then require a high level rescue or exchange (Otis for Steve?) that would take our eye off the ball.
Leave the dangerous stuff to those we elected!

Stan,

Thanks for your concern. I suspect there will have to be many preliminary discussions before the summit meeting between Mayors Ed Fitzgerald and Frank Jackson to resolve this border dispute. If there is anything I can do to accelerate the process, well then I just have to.

Hopefully, when it comes time for the summit, I can ride to it in the motorcade in the heavily armored LAKEWOOD ONE (Ed's car.). Until then, I guess I just have to take my chances for the good of all mankind.

This is history in the remaking!

Carpe Highland Avenue!

DL,

The Cleveland land grab started many decades ago. This thread started in 2006. When Lakewood finally exercises home rule on this issue, I will take a nap.

All the meetings and postings about three families wanting to raise chickens makes we want to bring this thread back.

How long have WE waited for some government recognition of Lakewood's historic borders? Highland Avenue signs would certainly do more to secure our brand and increase community pride than chickens.

Chicken people, take a number.

I am with you on this, but possibly it is also in the works after a study is done on three
intersecting streets. Then that could be enlarge to 6 then 9 or whatever.

Here is possible proof that the move is afoot.

Steve,

Word on the street is that City Hall is working on a Highland/Theatre/Chicken compromise:

I believe that the announcement of a community focus group will be released soon.

Even Google knows Lakewood history better than most of our residents. Zoom in on Google Maps to find Highland Avenue.

They took our land and now they want us to pay to improve/repair it!

Wake Up Lakewood!
