As Matt uses in his signature.

Board Bylaw 0148.

Only the School board President may speak for the Board.

This is why the very generous with his time and inpu Matthew Markling signs off with

My views do not necessarily reflect the views of the Lakewood City School District Board of Education or of my colleagues on the Board. Board Bylaw 0148.

We are extremely luck for the insight he gives us folks, that paid for the schools.

I too would be surprised if any large levy or tax increase could be passed in the next 12-18 months given the state of the economy. While I fully support the schools and at this point even an income tax increase for the city, I think given the fundamentals economics in the shape they are, I think it would be challenging to get passed.

Jim,

Thank you for sharing the limitations imposed upon board members by Board Bylaws.

You are correct that Board Bylaw 0148 mandates that: "The Board President functions as the official spokesperson for the Board."

Any official statement or clarification must come from Board President W. Charles Geiger, III, or Dr. David C. Estrop.

Having stated my limitations, I am confident that the Lakewood City Schools is on a path toward continued excellence. Traveling down that path depends upon ongoing co-operative efforts with all of Lakewood's Stakeholders. These efforts reflect the Board’s wishes and are not dependent on the Superintendent. There will be stability and continuity. I am confident that the Lakewood City Schools will not suffer as Dr. Estrop seeks employment elsewhere.

Matt
