Type profanity on line? Well' I guess one should at least wash their hands!
Amen Gary!
As a teacher, I've had to deal with everyone who walked into my classroom as well. I've even lost a few students over the years to the world of drugs.
As a youth leader, I've somewhat had to deal with the same situation...of course it pales in comparison I'm sure what you had to deal with teaching.

But you're definitely right, drugs are a problem and certainly not a new one. They're not limited by race, class, job, etc. It's a problem we all need to deal with .
But so is respectful civil interaction.

And by the way, some of you will need to check your spelling, punctuation and grammar. I could probably find my correcting pen, if I had to do so.
Absolutely agree again. Civil discussion is absolutely critical to moving Lakewood forward. There is alot of passion in this place, we need to harness our differences respectfully and flesh out the best ideas. We need to be open to the views of others and do the best for our neighbors and Lakewood as we can.

Oh I see, you think that donations are private information - they're not.

I have never talked about Dave, nor would I.

People have messaged me and talked to me because sometimes I get tired and discouraged by being a lone wolf and they want to urge me to continue.

My daughter wants to move from Lakewood because she says that from what she sees, she's only able to live here because of white privilege.

She's going to move and she's going to take a lot of her friends with her and it's a shame, because they are vital, involved and educated.

I told her not to let anyone run her out of town, but she doesn't think it's worth it.

Why would any of you be afraid of me - I'm a 57 year old, disabled woman who speaks her mind - is that scary? What could (or would) I do to any of you?

Before you say that I go around speaking badly about people you had better get your facts straight.

We can disagree on this, however the way you addressed Dave IMHO is inappropriate and unethical.

I'm just quoting exactly what you said to Dave. I can't take back what you wrote.

But I'm done arguing with you on this. The fact that you don't even have an inkling that you might have gone too far is disappointing, especially from someone with your social justice background.

I too am also very much involved in social justice issues and the bedrock of the social justice philosophy is that the fact that ALL people deserve respect and equality, regardless of their personal attributes or beliefs.

Well said. Thanks, Bryan

I wonder why that is? Hmmm.
Nothing personal, but you seem a bit angry and quick to judge people.. Maybe some people do not want to interact with you because of that...

Quick to judge - maybe I'm a thug, on Section 8 or ghetto.

I didn't say that about other people in our city. I requested many times that that stop.

I don't even know why I bother, because I don't agree with you all I'm obviously unethical, and wrong.

Nobody said you were wrong and you should keep on posting here. This place would be boring if we were all alike...

I am sure sharon will call this racist but to her....Hello, kettle.

Definition of diversity...tolerance for all different kinds of people who agree with me.

Personally, don't find any of the above content out of line except challenging to check up on someones donations. Is it all about money?
Sounds pretty personal.

I did not.. I tend to believe that we are all here (this board) for the same reason. We all care about Lakewood.

sharon kinsella wrote:Well he sure accomplished a lot.

He represented the City of Cleveland's Legal Department, on their letterhead.

He sent and defended a rant, a crazed and hateful statement.

He made national news as an idiot.

Not to mention, he gave reactionaries a platform to rant from.

Again I ask, what are any of you doing to make the world a better place?
Do you think hate speech is helpful? Do you think that the world is only fit for "certain" people. Do you think that everyone agrees with you?

Did it ever occur to you that other people, besides a couple of us on this forum, don't even bother to point out the flaws in your thinking because of your reactionary rants?
I dare say all people on this thread work hard every day to make this a better world. What good deeds each individual poster has performed is certainly not the business of anyone here.

Characterizing posters on deck as ranting reactionaries who engage in hate speech is a common vicious tactic used to minimize the value of opinions and to unfairly castigate and label individuals who express them.

Sharon (and all),

You know what's funny? It's my impression that some of us started out trying to help tone down the flames on the 'Deck. :D

If we look carefully at Stephen's positive remarks, and also, the respect (and fun) with which Bryan and I have interchanges these days, these are good things.

I've grappled word-wise on the 'Deck with both of them, and may do so again- but there is a bigger picture here.

We've learned (I hope) that we like each other.

What's more, I think we all like each other too.

It's just that when we state our points of view, we might not be as good about reading between the lines, as we are, on those lines.

Words are often such poor reflections of the heart, and the written word is probably the worst expressor of all. No emotion, no inflections, no eye contact to help decipher the truth between the words...

How much better might it have been if Mr Polensek just sat down and talked with the young man (and the parent) one more time?

Patience all, I remember a particularly long hot Cleveland Summer in the '60's.

One of those was enough.

I really do like you Sharon. I think you have a very passionate personality and you and I probably agree on far more than you realize. Sometimes we all just need to be careful that our passions don't cross the line (I've been there myself...just ask Gary  )
