This is outrageous!

It also underlines why the police do not want citizens involved in policing the city.

I used to play Hendrix full volume driving around in my car. Today I play Les Mis, AKUS, even Rap at a loud enough volume to be heard over the mini's whining engine. If I am not breaking a law, why would you single me out. When I listened to Blue Cheer/MC5 in the 70s or 2000s it has to be loud, that is how it was meant to be heard.

Laws need to be enforced. Stereotypes do not!

If it is late, and they are breaking the law with loud music, pull them over. If the have a broken taillight, loud muffler, smoking, pull them over.

But when you single people out for the music they play and the rims they buy. You have crossed a very bad line.

I don't care if they are playing Dueling Banjos, Gregorian Chants, or Ol' Dirty Bastard -- if it is rattling windows, pull the vehicle over, give the driver a citation, and conduct the "safety check".

If they are breaking the law.

Sure, we agree.

Because of their rims?!

Has anyone else noticed that no matter what the issue, the complaint is the same.

Housing - no enforcement
Noise - no enforcement
Crime - no enforcement

Huh?

Pat Carroll's court is so full of housing violaters they had to make it a special court. The pile on Mike Flynn's desk is looking like a tower.

Crime, they are talking of night court they are so busy.

Noise? I have no idea, but I would rather see the guys walking out of my garage arrested than Rick for those loud Gregorian Chants.

Some of this stuff is so unfair, I feel the need to respond.

Pat Carroll is way to busy for me. Not that should let anyone go.

I don't think I said anything about the rims -- I was talking about the loud music. But since you bring up the "rims" again - then yes -- if they are not safe, give them a citation. That goes for custom work done to motorcycles, muscle cars, etc. I see vehicles every day that cannot possibly be street legal.

Those obnoxiously loud motorcycles are another example Rick but you'll notice they don't rev them up when the police are near by. Likewise, the music gets turned down.

I watched a guy last night (around 7:00 pm) on Detroit near Giel urinate in plane view on the street while he was waiting for a bus. This was right next to La Pita Express I think it's called. Just gets better all the time in Lakewood... I was sitting in a shop across the street waiting for something at the time. In 45 minutes not one police car drove by - this is a busy area of Lakewood. I got to see this ghetto dude pee twice though. Aren't I lucky...

I don't blame the police though. There aren't enough police. They can't be everywhere all the time. We just need more of them. I see "selling the brand" of Lakewood here on LO and like I've said here before, if you want to sell the brand (?) clean it up. If you are going to sell your house or something, you clean it right? Somebody mentioned about an emergency levy to hire more police in another thread (was it Mark Crnolatas?), that's an increase I would vote for. Maybe.

Yeah. Me too. Still do. But not if I think it might bother someone or a neighbor. It's just common respect for the people around you. That's something that seems to be going away... common respect.

Yup...

It's getting that bad? Sound like they do need a night court, eh?

Again, I don't blame the police. In most cases. I just think more are needed.

I hear about noise ordinance enforcement on the scanner on a daily basis.

There is housing code violation enforcement, but you have to consider due process means that not everything gets resolved in a short period of time.

And no crime enforcement? I disagree. Our police officers are busy and effective. Can officers prevent every crime? Unfortunately, they cannot. But they seem to catch a lot of criminals...

I agree. If you need the police (or fire), they will be there right away. I just wish we had more of them.

Speaking of scanners, what do they run $ wise? Is radio shack a good place to pick one up?

Jim,

Do you not sense the frustration here? Are you saying that none of this occurs and some of us are over-reacting? Are you afraid to do anything about someone driving on our streets with "rims" and playing loud rap music for fear it could be misconstrued as racial profiling? (I think it's pretty clear that bad manners and disrespect are equal opportunity character disorders in Lakewood). Why all the denial? Desks are piled, night court, etc. Are you saying there's too much of it, so we can't do anything about it? Bad things are happening, and if Lakewood doesn't get a handle on them, (more) good citizens will leave Lakewood.

Do you sense my frustration?

The city is doing their job, yet we read NO PROSECUTION?

Could we all do better, sure we ALL could.

But let's start with facts.

Joe

We need a night court, and we need a BRAND much like the old west.

Come to Lakewood break the laws and you will get arrested.

We do not need the police pulling over everyone with rims.

Not be cynical or anything, but does my sense of an increase in negativism over the state of the City have any correlation to the mounting Mayoral camapign? It seems as though the hyperbole is an oblique attack on the present administration.

I sure would appreciate some positive input by any potential leaders as to how all of these indetified problems will be resolved in their anticipated administration. Otherwise, all these expressed frustrations just seem to be negative campaigning by proxy.

Jeff

One of my many points!

I hope we do not have the summer of attacks and bad PR, just so someone can get elected.

They run around $100 at the Shack. Had we searched for them online, we would have found better prices. Check eBay.
