I don't know if the concept is as terrible as the design. It just doesn't seem to fit into the style of Lakewood IMHO and as others have mentioned, it always seems dirty.

If crack is so bad, why do they not have trouble selling it.

I believe the thought is, the city could have done so much more with the land. Strip mall in downtown Lakewood.

Marc's is an interesting exercise is marketing. The aisles are crowded, laid out poorly so that you have to go past items again and again. Get slowed, and end up buying more.

Why they do that with their parking lots is beyond me.

You show me a Marc's and I will show you a very ugly parking lot.

BTW I'd still like to know if council is part of the George administration why isn't Congress part of the Bush administration? Just curious how you justify your stateme

But, for the record, up until a couple of months ago, Congress WAS a part of the Bush Administration

Just so I'm clear on your point, are you saying that the Mayor is not enforcing the chronic nuisance law, or merely that you have a subjective belief of it being handled ala GWB signing statement? Just curious.

I still don't understand the problem with the Marcs. So it is dirty and not a great example of architecture. It still appears to be the most successful retail location in the city. Would we rather a cool botique that is not supported and closes in 9 months ? I might qualify this with the fact I have only been in any Marcs like twice because they are not my thing
I like the bars and restaurants in Lakewood but have come to realize that if I want to do any shopping I go to Beachwood. Which is fine, since it saves me money and I am more likely to go out for a drink at night then to purchase a pair of jeans.

The problem I had with the West End development was that it was bringing a retail environment to Lakewood that doesn't look like it can be supported. We are Dollar Tree and Aldis and that is what works here.

Doesn't anybody in the city see that? Doesn't the mayor ever drive by there? Don't any city officials drive by there? Why is it allowed? Can't the property owner or somebody be help responsible? I don't know, I'm just asking.

I try really hard not to go to that store and parking lot. One, I don't feel too safe with some of the people/kids that are allowed to hang out there, and two because of the parking lot. Who ever designed the entrance and exits should be shot!

I have to come almost to a complete stop pulling out onto Warren to not bottom out my car. What genius designed that?

This is off topic though. Sorry. I'll walk away quietly now...

Unfortunately there are a lot dirtier places than Marcs in Lakewood. As far as the punks around Burger King, maybe the franchise owner does not realize they are scaring away customers.

Yep. The the city is definitely getting dirtier. I am hoping it just looks like this because the snow melted and no one has had a chance to clean up their properties, but there does seem to be quite a bit of trash. Also the graffiti. Did anyone notice the graffiti on the Lakewood Park entrance sign? I don't know how cities combat graffiti but it really seems to be getting out of hand. I even noticed graffiti on the Division of Youth building today.

I think I'll go drink some Kool-aid so I feel a little more positive.

Thank you very much for the video link to a provocative speech.

I especially enjoyed the ambitious classical allusion to Homer and the Iliad, a story that involves dividing captives and taking over a city. The speech made me wonder about Councilman Demro and Councilman Fitzgerald in the context of Agamemnon and Achilles.

I was also intrigued by the intended meaning and platform behind the phrase Ã¢â‚¬Å“progressive revolution in urbanism.Ã¢â‚¬Â

Does the line Ã¢â‚¬Å“No lack of dollars; only a lack of leadershipÃ¢â‚¬Â apply to the city, the region or both?

How through regionalism will Ã¢â‚¬Å“the progressive revolution of urbanismÃ¢â‚¬Â take flush-dollar captives from exurbia to our city?
