Orlov’s Gap is less optimistic than Thomas Hartmann’s map gap.
With any luck they are equally invalid.

I would like to extend gratitude to all parties involved for the deliberate commitment to this not having been a war between the United States of America and Russia the entire time.

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=YwSoPhKassE

These tensions are more akin to pre-world war one than World War 2. But very restrained in escalation. I must give more credit to Russia for restraint in this war than America. (I am unpopular).

These are not the days of world war One where troops and artillery disembark from steamboats and trains. The artillery is hauled around by livestock, and the soldiers march.

While i can appreciate the resolution of the Cold War, there is no way to do that again. There is no stalinist soviet Union to outperform or outlast. Our Congressmen cannot get even with Hitler and Stalin.

There is no way to repeat World War 2 again: in which our allies were broke and exhausted, and we were invigorated and prosperous. There are is no nazi germany and fascist italy and junta japan to fight against. There is no way to do World War 2 again.

It is true the neocon movement is the leading component of both parties. It is difficult to summarize or characterize the neocon movement. Every Senator that approved the invasion of Iraq was a neocon: not that they may be much more than neocons. Secretary of State Clinton was a neocon when she spearheaded our efforts to destroy Libya. Any candidate competing for AIPAC support is a neocon.
Most of Trump’s cabinet and senior appointees are neocons.

It is difficult to summarize or categorize Neocons.
It is best to describe them as baby boomers and even older generation Xers that do not understand why the rest of the world does not understand that the United States won World Two. Baby boomers and older Gen x-ers that do not understand why Russia and China do not understand that America won World War Two.

If you thought John Bolton was bad…this Stephen Miller guy is going to keep showing up for the next forty years.

One good thing about about Elon Musk giving so much money to politicians is that it obscures how much money miriam adelson gave to political campaigns. On the other hand, the Saudis gave two billion to Trump’s son-in-law: he does not need to apply that to political campaigns.

The most effective way to cajole Trump into going to war against Iran would be to convince him it would work because he is Donald Trump. Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Ukraine these things did all not go as well as expected because he was not in charge and his people were not running things. There are a succession of neo-cons that move up the ranks with the same motivation or purity of purpose.
