I believe there is an Ohio state law preventing any citizen from holding more than one elected position at a time. However, this article is interesting -
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/34373758For those without the time, there is an elected official who vows to finish his term as state representative while also serving as the mayor of Lawrence, Mass. to which he was just elected.

Wow. I am very surprised but not really as a result of the overwhelming votes that the people of Lakewood gave to Ms. Antonio. I am all for people moving on and doing what is best for themselves or there family. I find it hard to understand how she has time to work for the city of Lakewood in the position she was elected to do. She just finished one campaign now she goes into another one. It is time for the voters of Lakewood to understand that we need politicians that want to work here in Lakewood and stay here in Lakewood to help our city.
Yes I understand that you think it is a good thing if we have someone from Lakewood in Columbus working there for us. But what my problem with Ms. Antonio running for State Rep is that she just finished one campaign and now she is going into another one. When will she have the time to work for us?
Just my thoughts on this. I will do everything I can to help Tom Bullock become State Rep and say NO to Antonio. She is not the right choice for this position in my view and I would encourage everyone to do there homework on this.
My question for Ms. Antonio is "when are you working for Lakewood City Council? When do you have time to work for the city you just got elected to?"
SAY NO TO ANTONIO FOR STATE REP!

Ms. Antonio works very hard for "Lakewood". Or have you missed the fact that "Lakewood" is now comprised of and exsists merely for the advancement of the select few?
Ms. Antonio has been appointed to many positions. As such, her job is to serve the interests of those who appointed her, not the intresets of those who merely cast a vote for her. A fact that is apparent in her lemming like time on city council.
If elected to higher office she will still owe those who appointed her. She will continue to sever as proxy to the wishes and agendas of those she owes her resume. And Lakewood will still be forgotten in her quest to appease those who have in the past appoint her to a committee, as well as those who could in the future advance her political career.
She is damaged, tainted goods. She is bad for Lakewood. And Ms. Nikkie Antonio would be bad for Ohio.

Jared, I unfortunately have to agree with Sharon. Tom is even worse. He has been in Ohio for about ten minutes (DISCLAIMER: That is an exaggeration) and now he thinks he is ready to represent us. Tom has accomplished virtually nothing for Lakewood other than to botch leashed dogs in the parks legislation and proposed that people should be allowed to raise chickens in their backyards. This guy should not be at city hall, let alone the statehouse.

My problem with Ms. Antonio is specific she just finished one campaign to work for Lakewood on City Council. Now she jumps into the race for State Rep. Again when does she find the time to do her job on City Council. I fully understand everyone's point of view on other candidates but I know that there were people running for City Council (Demro, Shields, Shapiro) that wanted to be on City Council and work for Lakewood. I just have a hard time that Ms. Antonio took the time to run for City Council knowing she was going to run for State Rep. Hey listen great job of getting your name out in the public. She sure does a good job of fooling people. Trust worthy she is not. I don't want her to speak on behalf of me and represent me or my city in any way. Oh great so she likes to claim she got outside eating in Lakewood. Blah - Blah - Blah!!!!
Sharon it is not a matter of what Tom has or has not done. Because I don't know that information, and I will do my homework to find out. I am only saying When does Ms. Antonio have the time to do the job that she is getting $7,000 a year for? Can you answer that for me? Sharon what are the issues you want Ms. Antonio to work on for Lakewood? What would you like her to do for us as a State Rep?
Happy Holiday's and good to be on the Observer.

Jared, first of all, sour grapes and all that.
Second of all, you're working for a candidate that you know nothing about, that doesn't say much for you.
Let's see - a couple of Nickie things -
Balancing budget
Served on a host of committees to represent and listen to the public
One of the founders of the Community Relations Commission
Hosted a number of programs in the community to promote understanding and communication between all residents.
Sidewalk dining which has helped attract new business and helped build established businesses.
Worked to protect Senior Services.
Responds to citizen's issues and does problem solving.
Developed relationships with Cleveland City Council folks.
Nickie is always there to represent the city and volunteers, she's always there supporting local initiatives and events. here are very few local merchants that don't know her name and that haven't seen her spending her money in their store.
Obviously you don't know Nickie, if you did you'd know that she's always been an overachiever, I'm completely serious about that.
This is just a small sampling of things she's done for Lakewood, a very small sampling. Go to her website at NickieAntonio.com and get to know her better.

Sharon,
I am not sure what you mean by "sour grapes" but if you are saying that I am a poor loser than I suggest you check yourself. I am not working for Mr. Bullock but I do like him and that is enough reason for me to support a friend.
Sharon have you done anything in this city to help or grow the community? I don't recall hearing your name anywhere.
