Thank you Brian I will. Not that I am looking to jump, just trying to understand other sides.

Brian, those were great reads...thanks for posting. My favorite reason (and caveat) of the Pro-McCain article was this:

7) He would, along with Sarah Palin, bring sexual tension back to the White House.

Awkward hugs, an aging flyboy, a jealous wife...bring the popcorn!

Caveat: If you appreciate politics solely as entertainment, there's no caveat at all.

Too funny. But these articles were neat and did more to solidify in my mind the idea of what a libertarian might look for in a presidential candidate. I am curious what the self-named libertarians on the LO think of this.

I am curious too for some insight of why and how they chose that too, without links to read.

I only know of two proud Libertarians on the Deck that I can say have been Libertarians for as long as I have known them Steve Hoffert and Don Farris. Maybe they will come forward and explain.

See one of the big problems right now is that many Republicans are embarrassed, so they claim to be Libertarian or Independent.

And the two men you just mentioned Jim, don't swing to the right, always, regardless of what is going on around them. That isrwhat makes the term "libertarian" confusing. The origins of Libertarian were to take government out of domestic issue I thought and they leaned heavy to the right. The problem I have with that, is the reason the government initially got involved in domestic programs is because of what certain people in this country created: killing and taking over the land of the Indians, bringing over men, women and children from Africa and enslaving them, and keeping women down, not even allowing them in the work force, colleges, or voting arenas. So when heros emerged and put a stop to that and other tragedies, programs were needed to help out these individuals who owned nothing and had no higher education.

Now, have we screwed up many of the programs and created them to induce dependence on the system and females not to marry or they wouldn't get help? Yes. The system, even with some reform, is broken. Taking government out of it completely and letting all those people, primarily children, fend for themselves should not even be a thought. Truly reforming the system instead of invading another country would have been nice. How many homeless are mentally ill that we have "de-institutionalized" and turned our backs on? How many are veterans of Vietnam? You can claim that a small number of people spit at them or worse, but our own government who sent them there turned their backs on them in much worse ways. They just don't get what they deserved to get after fighting for their country and coming home emotional and physical wrecks. So at least be real about the problems in this country. Which are now way too many to list or discuss. Instead of helping the veterans or others, we are going to bail out billions to big idiot moronic greedy selfish banks AND still give their CEO's their whopping salaries. Yea I would be embarrassed to say I was Republican too.

I will even go farther and say the two I mentioned are two of the most giving people I know.

For the most part Neo-Libertarians are just looking for a way to keep more for themselves while turning a blind eye to those in need.

My problem is what ever force brought us here, gave us souls. It is that "soul" that keeps me from kicking the weak, poor, sick to the streets as I walk down them.

Because regardless of what religion we are, if there is one God, there is One of us. There for the grace of God go I. We are not separate and somewhere deep down (even you haha) know that.
