The Observation Deck

Not advocating or predicting - just observing here: there are about 12-20 houses on St. Charles and Belle that separate the hospital property from the P.O. and the BOE across the street. My only source for this is Google Maps. That would greatly increase the scope of the hospital development area.

Many of the homes on St Charles, across from the PO, were owned by the Clinic. It looks like the city got them back in the "deal," albeit in an unmaintained state according to one renter I know. Apparently, they've been in limbo as to whether they can remain in the homes.

Development for WHAT? A steel smelting plant? Crappy 3/4 shopping stores? The 3/4 low class shopping stores is no longer viable.

Yes, what is being discussed behind closed doors?

Let's say the post office does move. What would go in its place? USPS does not, and never has owned the post office building. It has been owned by a family from Youngstown for 50 years. The building needs a lot of work. The back of it looks like a train wreck.

Would the family that owns the place simply find a new tennant? Who would that be? Would they sell? To whom?

I think it would be great to sell the property to a developer to build a row of overpriced, bland condos. Or what about soccer fields?

Office building owners are declaring bankruptcy all across NE Ohio, shopping malls are closing, the retail business is in a depression, and industry is moving away.

The only thriving business is the medical business and the Mayor chose to give it away and move it to Avon.

Six years into Summers "Vision For Tomorrow" and they still don't have a clue.

What I am starting to see here is a row of properties, separated only by city streets, that could be part of a grander scheme than that of just the hospital land. Of course it would have to be turned into rubble first. Source: Google Maps.

When I posted, Alternative Rental was closing, I had word of mouth, from the owner, he was selling out. Who spread the gossip about the post office taking over?

Dunno. But on their website Grace also operates at Fairview. Some sort of market segmentation to differentiate from that flagship CC brand?

Grace is a "long term acute care facility" in (or formerly in) Lakewood Hospital. I've encountered references to it before but don't know much about it. I bet some here do.

I thought Grace Hospital was on Scranton?

I may be wrong, but, I recall hearing that the beds from the rehab unit at Lakewood Hospital, that was being run by Grace Hospital, were sold to CCF and moved to Fairview. More than likely, the beds were probably given to CCF by Summers and Extended Company. Perhaps this "deal" is in the paper work that Kevin Butler has been holding hostage. I believe since all the records retention ordinances were changed last year to a much shorter time span, Butler will probably be shredding these records long before we ever see them!
