I love how your idea was beaten down with multiple sticks. I'm not here to say whether it was a good idea or a bad idea, it is just comforting to know that any idea can be beaten to a pulp. Who needs an open mind anyway?
Jim
I'm confused. (Jim: "I am still willing to work with you or anyone that would like to add or change things on the Deck.") You said the LO will do what Lakewood wants, can't somebody, such as Ryan, suggest something without an anvil dropping on his head? Such is the tone of the Deck.

It is a mosh pit of tough love. I cannot control, nor would I want to control what you put up there, why would I want to control others? The idea is to take ownership of the idea and all the love and hate that comes with it. Hopefully at the idea, not the poster. However I, you, and many others do get personal now and then. It is unfortunate, but I am not on the high ground to comment. Again, I would rather know the racist, than not.
What many do not realize is that this "concept" was thought out long and hard over more than a year, by many minds much sharper than mine. It is also a concept that is growing very quickly throughout America. Let people say what they will, as long as they are willing to take ownership of them.
The discussion always makes more sense to me, then the "blogger" who preaches from on high and never gives room to dissent. Or those that live in closets and the dark and throw stones and run and hid, that adds nothing to the landscape. In my humble opinion.
However, The Lakewood Observer has been set up in such a way that anyone can come up with an idea, and we will try to make it happen. However they must be willing to shepard it through. Ideas, are cute, and like opinions everyone has one. The real deal, where the rubber hits the road is follow through. That is why we are here. To make it happen.
If Ryan wants a moderated board, then we can help him make it happen. However it does fly against everything the LO is about. Also as witnessed by others both other boards are HEAVILY moderated. Removing anything that goes against the owners beliefs, or party line. So you end up with heavily moderated boards made up of people not using their real names and multiple names. How on earth does that even make sense.
Me, I like knowing enough about a person that when I meet them on the street I can easily think back if I even want to talk with them. To me it is the difference between Sunny Skye and Phil Distasio. Remember we found out that Phil was harvesting young autistic children in diapers for some of the most despicable acts ever committed on children. Now he serves multiple life sentences, but also has internet access and friends on the outside using faux names and working the net. No give me Corey talking about me in dresses, Eisel talking about me as the pumpkin slut, and Salo telling me I have never supported a Republican.
If an Observer wants it, and has the time or the help, we can try to make it happen.
FWIW

I, too, am all for open discussions. Name attached, claim it. Agreed. In fact, I agree with the bulk of your reply.
The heading was for Muddy Deck. I agree with that as well. I have no solid statitstics but am willing to bet my wife's Pot Roast recipe that people are hesitant on the Deck because of the tone it takes. I understand that is what happens when it is open, and I have no problem with the open format. I am also aware that there is no way to control it from happening.
I am just waiting for the day that someone tears apart a post titled The Happiest Day of My Life.

Folks have been pretty sweet about those birth announcements and the shots of the skies over the canyon.
I've also seen a lot of nice stuff in Chef Geoff's area and the House section.
It's just the politics that get people crazy.
We went to the Hot Dog place because a couple people said good things about it.

Go back and read the original post. It is as nasty, as the things others are being accused of. It also follows on the tail of PMs and other discussions.
A hit, or attack, even covered with roses is still a hit or an attack. The difference is the Observer can stand that and offer the solutions to make it right, or show how strong the interest really is.
I mean how excited would the Rosen family be if I stood in the middle of your store and said, "It is dead here but at Simone's everything is really happening, even if they water the booze down." I mean even when you and I are fighting, have we ever turned my back on you, or the Jordan Family Foundation? Have I ever tried to move anyone away from your store, or even suggest it? NEVER Let's be honest Opus One watered down is not even Boone's Farm or Ripple.
But as I said, if people want to talk with one person using 10 names, I can't stop them and have no interest in joining them. If a person would rather fuel a project based on profit for one person that has never helped the city what alone the person complaining, instead of a place run completely by the citizens, and Lakewood groups we work with, based solely on making the city better, and willing to sit down talk and help those complaining, what can I say. In the end it is America.
On the flip side, every political official that comes in to this place, business owners and 98% of the rest are treated with compassion and respect. And those that are not, at least know for a fact who is attacking them.
