aww..Wu's. I miss Wu's.
They have a restaurant downtown now. The old Shanghai I believe. Not sure exactly where it is. They were #1 until the oh so useful Walgreens came to town. And that displaced the Warren Tavern which had some pretty decent grub.
I always wondered about Waterbury Coach House...never been. must try.
Thai Kitchen is further down Madison near the Family Dollar. Ridgewood and Madison? Winchester and Madison?
Kiehm's is right by WestSide Skates on Madison. Between Bunts and Wascana.
Szechuan Garden...Giel and Detroit.
Panda Wok...117 between Detroit and Franklin. Next to Mr. Hero.
as someone who never eats at home....i love a good meal!

Finding out about some new places
We like going out for breakfast and my two favorite places are:
The Place to Be - their poached eggs are perfect every time and the service is unbelievable. I swear you can have a great breakfast there if you are in a hurry almost faster than waiting in line at a fast food place.
Borderline Cafe - crowded on the weekend but always worth it.
Angelo's Pizza - great salads and pizza and beautiful decor. This is the restaurant I selected for my Birthday dinner this year.
La Pita Express - amazing vegetarian food
The Melt - I usually get the combo - The vegetarian chili is great. My daughter talked me into trying the Peanut Butter and Banana sandwich - it is incredible.
Honorable Mention:
Souper Market - I've loved everything I've gotten there - just wish they had longer hours.
Dave's Cosmic Subs (not quite mom and pop - but pretty local)
India Garden - I never liked Indian food until I went there.
Szechuan Garden - The food is always great.
Aladins - Just like Dave's but they started here.
I was going to say how wonderful the owner of La Pita Express was and he is - but I realized that is what separates these restaurants from some of the chains - the passion and love that the owners and employees have for their restaurants.
I have always wanted to try Peppers. What vegetarian foods do you recommend there?

One of the most important thing to set someone apart, aside from good fresh healthy food (I equate healthy food with no hydrogenated oil and not frozen stuff like chains serve) is when you walk in, and you get a warm smile and they know your name! La Pita's is one of the very best things to happen to Lakewood, although we are fortunate to have many warm friendly places here! The food could be superb, but I will never go back if the service is cold!Lynn Farris wrote:Finding out about some new places

Here's their menu. They also have WiFi.

I've been there for breakfast and dinner, and the food was good, the service pleasant but a little slow.

This thread brings back to me the wisdom of my Grandma McCarthy. As I child I would watch her during family dinners oddly changing the subject to the food when the voices started rising. I didn't understand at the time but grandma knew that praising the cook and redirected angry political voices to the meal at hand would reorient all to what all could agree ... a good meal...with good people...that trumps all.
Thanks again Justine for starting this wonderful thread.
