34 - Ask AT&T for FREE I-Phones for all police, building department, law department workers. This would free up a ton of space in the patrol cars, and allow all city workers to tie into the net when inspecting buildings, etc. Built in camera, and computer running Apple's legendary Panther software. Legendary because it worked out of the box.
35 - Fulfillment zones, for all businesses especially home based. Based on studies and ideas I presented almost 5 years ago. This would be a building on Berea road that houses items for home based and small companies and could handle shipping or other business needs. An example would be a 11pm runs to FedEx and UPS. This would encourage home based and start up businesses into Lakewood.
36 - City shuttles that run Madison/Detroit, and are FREE to shoppers. These would be used after 6 to make the runs for the fulfillment zone.

Dateline 6-29-07
News analysis:
6-24-07
Potential mayoral candidate Jim O'Bryan sighting at Lakewood Library Gala, in professional business haircut, with well-fitting jacket and tie.
CHICKEN sandwiches served at event.
6-28-07
Rumor mill opens on Observation Deck regarding potential O'Bryan candidacy.
Rice's parrot repeats over and over "Cluck like a chicken"
(believe it or not, this event is true-he also says "crow like a rooster")
Non-candidate O'Bryan attempts to deflect persuasions from his "feathered friends", while at the same time, definitely not laying eggs during cursory mapping of "what-if" plans for the city.
6-29-07
Huge influx of over 1000 observations made re: "chicken rising" postings on Observation Deck.
Apparently inspired, possibly less of a non-candidate O'Bryan lets the barnyard know more of his vision.
Can the Chicken Dance be long in coming?

Gary this post is absurd.
Everyone knows I get two haircuts a year whether I need them or not. My summer haircut coincides with the Realtors Seminar as it did last year. Winter with Thanksgiving.
This crazy event held by Barb Kelley actually invites Realtors to come into Lakewood for a day, lunch, tours, and Lakewoodites talking about their city. Imagine that a Lakewood branding event that doesn't leave the city!
I cannot tell you how serious I am about the chickens. A close friend of mine was forced to keep chickens illegally for years. No one knew. One reason was every near them got FREE eggs. As one neighbor said, "They are quiet and easy to handle if they get out, no problem. Besides have you ever tasted a real fresh egg!" LA, Manhattan, Chicago, Seattle, it is legal. Talk about brand building. My friends son used to travel around the country winning Chicken breeding contests. Think of overcoming those handicaps to win.
Dave
With free WiMax you could jump on that and more.

40 - Relax the rules to allow one or two tattoo shops in Lakewood.
I know that Voodoo Monkey and 252 Tattoo would love a Lakewood store as so many Lakewoodites leave the city for tattoos now.

Jim, I think that you should run just to add alittle spice to the political spectrum... Maybe make the candidates think outside of the box... Kinda like Dennis for pres. I vote for him... even though I know he will never be president... but I think you might actually win...
Why are chickens not legal? Maybe if I had a parrot from Madagascar laying eggs instead?

Actually, who has the most influence in a city?
The mayor has to work with council and other people to get his/her plan(s) going. Checks and balances and all that political thing. Neither a mayor or a president is all powerful.
A NEWSPAPER EDITOR can start fires and quench fires, get things going or get things put to a stop. He or she has a finger on the influence of public opinion. That is the real power.
If you take that into consideration, a newspaper editor can be behind anyone or against anyone or any thing, regardless of political parties and such.
Something to ponder.

Jim,
My post is absurd?
I feel certain that Lakewood's egg-laying parakeets, parrots, cockatiels, cockatoos etc...are certainly deeply concerned about the rights of other egg-laying fowl in our city.
We certainly don't want to see any "fowl" play
Only whether plans are being "hatched"
OK, OK, I'll stop for now....

Why are chickens not legal?
When I was a little, we had 3 white Peking Ducks. They were a real hoot. I seem to remeber that the Fletchers also had some that produced some nice eggs......

Stan
That would depend.
As of right now I am not running.
If I did, you can bet I would lead with a website, filled with bio info, press photos of me cleaned up in a suit, and would have some form of platform.

Jim,
I'm sure you realize that with all these posts, running for mayor could be a real option for you. It also looks like you'd have a lot of activists behind you, me included aka The Deck Crew. (has a nice nautical ring to it). Putting up a website, some pics and developing a platform for you wouldn't be a difficult thing to do with many of us pitching in.
Pop, up goes the site. Pop, flash, there's the photos. You just about outlined your platform in your posts.
I can even imagine your cabinet, tho' we'd have to watch Stan. Did anyone tell Stan there isn't an Entertainment Director position in City Hall?
Mark Allan Crnolatas
(I think we're getting to him now fellow Deck Crew, but in what way, is the question?)
