Don't tell me this town ain't got no heart.
You just gotta poke around.

Re: ANNOUNCEMENT: New Logo for Downtown Lakewood
Was at the Waterloo Arts Fest yesterday. What a wonderful day walking
around in a community working together.
The Waterloo Arts District has to be one of the fastest growing art districts around.
Anchored by things like the Beachland Ballroom, Waterloo 7, Low Life, and the
Waterloo Cafe. Are blocks of homes for $20,000 - $30,000. That would be a mortgage
payment of about $189 a month. Which is very appealing to the art crowd.
Any, they had some very nice, way finding signage that allowed even tourist to
the area find our way all over the district.
Maybe we could learn from them and not have to reinvent the wheel

Re: ANNOUNCEMENT: New Logo for Downtown Lakewood
A community that was working together to create a wonderful event. You got that right Jim.
I didn't see any organization racing to take credit. No rules or bickering about who does what, and where, and why, but rather just a bunch of people coming from all over to celebrate art and a community.
More signage:

Haight Street, 3750 miles away! I'd rather know that than have a sign in "downtown Lakewood" tell me I'm in "DowntowN LakewooD". This sign has directions to local shops and landmarks, which is way more useful.

What I've been thinking all along:

This is what trash cans outside of Lakewood look like (boring!):

It was much different than Lakewood's art walk, because people were allowed to bring pets. Big pets!

And you can buy pets, right out of the back of a pickup truck. 50 bucks will get you a cute furry puppy.

Gaza Strip? Nope, Collinwood!

We parked between the plastic wrapped rainbow vans and the Kaboom graffiti wall:

Ivor loved the wayfinding.
Hey Ivor, where is the photo of me, and the Tamale Man?

In response to Jim's statement -
Since you mention the costs of the houses and because I know a couple of things about Collinwood, I would venture to say that none of the people putting that walk together were north of the William Sonoma line or have had another group try to undermine their venture yet.
Frankly, their are so many possibilities for things that could be done in Lakewood to celebrate and build community, there is no need for any organizations to attempt to steal ideas, undermine efforts or create havoc.
All we need is original thought, real collaboration and more opportunities for fun.
Here's a question, what Lakewood artists were involved with that ArtWalk?

Sharon
Actually, the city on the whole is waking up to WE HAVE TO WORK TOGETHER. There
are factions, but on the whole they are waking up.
RESPECT/REAL COLLABORATION, is paramount. I would say no group there steals
other groups ideas as fast as it is done here, for personal gains and $$$$$. I would say
that there is a great deal of respect from the 3 CDCs that cover Collinwood. Makes me think
it is time to start another CDC or two here. hmmmmmmmmmmmmm
All of the artists, at Waterloo were not from the neighborhood, though most of the business
owners have bought and are heavily invested in the community.
You are right there is a lot of potential here in Lakewood. But what we have are
demi-gods looking for power and ego feeding. They are desperate to prove they
have traction when none is there.
As for Lakewood artists. Do not get me started. As one of two founders in Lakewood is Art
I know what the mission statement was, and what the first three things to be done were.
Mission drift would be the under statment. Now there are two other groups dedicated to
the arts, Art is Lakewood, and another about to be announced with funding from The
Cleveland Foundation, I believe. Then we have the Beck and LakewoodAlive/LCPI/Mainstreet/DowntowN/name dujour. One would have to wonder which one to join and
give support too!
Sharon as always you raise good points.

You tell me this town aint got no heart. well, well, well, you can never tell.
The sunny side of the street is dark. well, well, well, you can never tell.
Maybe that's cause its midnight, in the dark of the moon besides.
Maybe the dark is from your eyes, maybe the dark is from your eyes,
Maybe the dark is from your eyes, maybe the dark is from your eyes,
Maybe the dark is from your eyes, maybe the dark is from your eyes,
You know you got such dark eyes!
Nothin shakin on shakedown street. used to be the heart of town.
Don't tell me this town ain't got no heart. you just gotta poke around.
You think you've seen this town clear through.
Well, well, well, you can never tell.
Nothin here that could interest you. well, well, well, you can never tell.
Its not because you missed out on the thing that we had to start.
Maybe you had too much too fast. maybe you had too much too fast.
Maybe you had too much too fast. maybe you had too much too fast.
Maybe you had too much too fast. maybe you had too much too fast.
Or just over played your part.
Nothin shakin on shakedown street. used to be the heart of town.
Don't tell me this town aint got no heart. you just gotta poke around.
Since Im passing your way today. well, well, well, you can never tell.
I just stopped in cause I want to say, well, well, well, you can never tell.
I recall your darkness when it crackled like a thundercloud.
Don't tell me this town ain't got no heart.
