Snow Day?!

I was wondering what the secret code was. I heard it back in the day but forgot what it was. They probably changed it with the new (at the time new) superintendant.

Yeah, I don't live too far away from the school but I walk directly into the wind gusts. I wear 2 hats and a pair of gloves with a big puffy coat; but when that wind gust hits you, your eyes hide in the back of your skull. That breeze from the lake kills.

It's like swimming upstream, only much colder. I can't help but go against the grain..or wind in this situation.

I feel your pain, Ivor...though I'm not in high school (or college) any more, I do take RTA to work in Downtown Cleveland, and waiting for the bus is no fun either.

If you walk in zig-zag angles into the wind it isn't as bad.

Been there, done that. I have to cross a lot of streets, and there's a ton of people and cars in the area because there's a ton of students that walk.

I'm just hoping for a snow day this monday or tuesday. It's going to be well below zero and I wouldn't want anyone walking to school then.

I see a lot of elementary school kids walk home on my street.

I agree that Lakewood schools are, to say the least, stingy with the snow days. I recall the ice day when the schools, with walkers, should have definitely been closed. I think a snow day a year is the least kids and teachers should get just for morale purposes.

Though the poor kiddies walking to school in the cold doesn't really get to me. I walked to school or the bus stop 1/2 mile for 12 years in all sorts of weather. I survived, not frost bitten or harmed in any way. And, no boots, open coat, no hat in the freezing cold...isn't that just cross generation-ally cool?

We are an amazingly resilient specie until we start telling ourselves or our children we are not. The cold here is rarely if ever deadly. I do not recall one report in my many years of anyone being harmed by engaging in everyday activities outside in the cold in this climate (except for shoveling snow). Until I hear of a case, I think our children are safe walking to and from school.

But still bring on the snow, cold, ice day. It's been a very long time and everyone enjoys a bonus day off!

I've been walking to school since I moved here. Only every now and then if I have a big project to carry and its pouring outside do I get the luxury of a ride.

We'll see. If we get a free day, I'll spend it outside anyway. :lol:

Just saw the weather forecast. Wind chills are supposed to be between -10 and -20 degrees. BRRRRRRR! :shock:

add snow all week and temperatures in the 5-15 degree range.

I try to build up extra fat during the winter. that means plenty of fried eggs and meat and cheese when I can afford it. Another good technique is to pour half a cup of oil on popcorn, and plenty of salt.

Dr.Wagner (principal of LHS) came on the PA today after school and reminded teachers and staff to bring their "emergency phone numbers list" home because "the forecast is going to be a cold one, and I'm not trying to jynx monday but just in case we have a snow day" they would need this list.

If the temps are what they are calling for on Monday, my kids won't be going. They are in modular classrooms and they have to go outside several times during the day to go into the main building, I don't want them outside. I am just hoping the weather reports are wrong, because it's going to be awfully cold and I really don't need them to have an extended weekend. Brrrrrrr!!!!!

There are a ton of closings already, and Lakewood isn't one of them.

Jeez, does it take a foot of snow and -30 temps for Lakewood to close?
