Today the adults of Lakewood have taken to shaming three kids WHO MAY HAVE thrown food at an African-American woman. The post mentions charges filed, and the police know who they are. Though the post acts like they do not.

PITIFUL both the kids for doing it, and the Adults shaming them. Let the kids have their day in court.

There is something really distasteful in my book of adults shaming kids outside of their parents.

I saw that and was concerned.

I absolutely do not condone their actions, if true, and if it was my child I’d deal with it harshly. BUT, the vigilante style crowd on Facebook that “outed” those boys is inciting more trouble and violence - AGAINST CHILDREN.

What does that accomplish? Better to report it and let the police talk to the boys and hope their parents are then responsible enough to address the issue.

I just saw on Twitter how two people were wrongly accused of assaulting young protesters on a bike path in Maryland and they TRASHED these innocent people because the Twitterverse thinks they are so righteous when really they are vengeful.

I worried that the post about those boys would incite violence and I don’t want ANYONE harmed. And so many responding seemed so delighted at trashing the boys without any actual first hand knowledge of what happened.

I had no idea of the background until I read that piece.

So, help me make the call

Do we delete it? I was going to take down the photo.

Or do we leave it and let people learn.

I should have realized you didn't know his background. I think lots of people think he's just eccentric. I'm not sure what the best course of action is but I lean toward leaving it up so others can find out he's not just some guy who picks up garbage in knight clothing.

Though the irony that this lands here, in this topic, is that any online forum is fraught with minefields. We rarely have the whole picture and, now, pictures can be easily altered.

And I love our little neighborhood facebook page, though I wish it didn't live on facebook. It's a useful tool to celebrate our neighbors, communicate, resolve simple issues, etc and in the rare occasion when people try to stir the pot, the posts are just completely ignored.

Every one of my encounters have been interesting and enjoyable. I have run into him maybe 30 times. Once while he and his step father were putting up an amazing Christmas display here in Lakewood. At no point has he said anything that made me think he was anything but an eccentric.

What is amazing if you look back, all FB community pages were started to control the message. ALL OF THEM, even the ones that claim they don't. I have spoken to each person running them, starting them and walking away. All came from a frustration that their point of view was being covered up, or to actually control the dialogue in and around Lakewood like the community page started by Jenn Pae to promote lies and miss-truths about the Hospital debacle. That alone should have wised Lakewoodites up, but no. Lakewoodites prefer to not know the facts, and to have other people fight their dragons.

Diffusion in the enemy of a community.

Thanks for taking the time to walk in my shoes for a bit. Bridget and I spoke of what to do and we agreed with what you came up with.

Observers want and seek the truth. Even when we do not like what we find out.
