These doors-which are the oldest remaining section of Lakewood Hospital - were once the entrance into this healing environment where patients entrusted Lakewood Hospital physicians with their care during their most vulnerable times.
We recognize and thank our valued physicians for meeting the health needs of Lakewood Hospital patients and the community.

“Portals of Health” artist unknown was given to all Lakewood Hospital employees.

Three phases of Lakewood Hospital Emergency Rooms....
The oldest photo of the hospital property yet. Wagar Cemetery, on the corner of Belle and Detroit, looking north east. On the right in the background Lakewood Presbyterian Church.
The same photo about 15 years ago. Shooting across the front of Lakewood Hospital, the buildings in the back fall into place with original photo. What many do not realize is that what is referred to as Wagar Cemetery, was actually 2 Cemeteries. There was also Kidney Cemetery on the northeast corner next to Wagar Cemetery. Kidney Cemetary was only 16' x 16'.
Grave stone found!
The grave stone picture in the old photo has been located. It is the gravestone of Joseph Hall, one of the founders of Lakewood.
Thanks to Jim Dempsey for the images and information.

It's Dejeus all over again.
In the early 80s part of the hospital was torn down for new improvements to the Emergency Room, and Drop off area. This was done with the help of Lakewood Hospital Foundation, a group that had been tasked with keeping Lakewood Hospital running at all costs. When the hospital was first erected, the entire region saw it as a real statement of Lakewood dedication to health and community. All were hailed as heroes. (See article in upcoming LO 15_08)
Old awning being torn down in 1982.
Artists concept of the new awning/entrance. Which lasted about 15 years before it was removed for the emergency room overhang we all see today. Well at least for the next couple weeks.
To better understand the relationship between Lakewood Hospital Foundation, Lakewood Hospital and the good residents of Lakewood. Lakewood Hospital was a foundation the entire city supported through many fund raising opportunities over the years. They also managed the millions left to Lakewood Hospital by greatly patients, businesses and residents to keep Lakewood Hospital going for ever. At the time of selling Lakewood Hospital for $1.00, the Lakewood Hospital Foundation had all the funds it needed to complete the $70 million in updates the hospital was looking for. So that once again, massive improvement are made, and the city and the hospital continue.
All of that money has been taken by Three Arches. What was a pseudo public foundation is now a private institution. They have decided the money they now control is better spent across a region.
Today it would be $800 just to get to the hospital, and another $1,200 if you had to be transferred to a full service hospital.

And then the rainbow appeared!
Then suddenly one appeared in the basement!
But like everything else with One Lakewood Multi-Use Strip Mall, it is false, an illusion and will soon fade and disappear when the help stops.

Ultimately, the biggest mistake any City could make.
Even rainbows will grace a tragedy on some days...

An absolute shame on so many levels:
1. 1,500 jobs lost
2. 100s of millions in lost revenue for Lakewood
3. Property sold to a former Lakewood mayor turned developer for $1.00 and 0 questions asked
4. 7 current “democrats” on council, 0 members write a letter to the Department of Justice or the Ohio Attorney General
5. Every “democrat” on council has fought for their own pet issues and spent more time debating hens in backyards than fighting for the hospital.
6. Years from now when a new hospital is built in Lakewood, residents will ask “well why didn’t council stop it the first time around”? You will not defeat the Summers regime until they are held legally liable——but that would require council members with a spine.
7. Residents needs to mobilize their efforts towards getting an investigation opened. You wont get the hospital back but you will get justice and a defeated Sam O’Leary.
