Ahh, the good ole days of community hospitals. It seems the trend is reversing! (IF it was a trend in the first place)
Metro would have been a great partner for Lakewood to have in the medical industry. They (Metro) are obviously adjusting to patient's needs with compassion, as opposed to the Clinic who is more interested in chasing the almighty $.
This news stings.

Some say "timing is everything." Lakewood leaders ignored Metro's interest and missed out on an opportunity to keep jobs and life saving services close to home.

The Lakewood deal had ZERO to do with healthcare or jobs. ZERO. It was all about grabbing the money and land for a couple people to develop. The biggest piece missing from the Metro Deal was letting them keep land and money. Virtually every other part of the deal was much better.

From day one, this was a Cleveland Clinic deal that the mayor and his administration rubber stamped. No other alternatives were ever envisioned; in fact, they were blocked.
Why do you think the city is fighting so hard to keep records of meetings and emails hidden?

From day one the Clinic was a red herring. Again, and you know this the entire deal was about a small group of friends of the mayor, acquiring the foundation money for development or to manage as they see fit, and the ability to develop, something, anything. They lost on 3 other chances and were willing to do anything including gamble the entire future of Lakewood for one last shot, one last chance to develop something, no, make that anything in their lifetime.
The emails were hidden for a variety of reasons. All of them bad.

Councilman Anderson, our Ward 1 representative,
Too bad you supported this. I am speechless. $33M in charitable funds for the poor and underserved GONE, 1300+ jobs GONE.
Metrohealth... where was your support of them & the quality of care they could have provided? You could have prevented this, but you didn’t.
I made numerous calls to you, requesting you fight for the Metro deal. Now Parma & Cleveland Heights will flourish, while we suffer. How long before our taxes are raised and a levy is required for our schools?

Keep in mind also the restrictive covenant the City asked for in the hospital deal to keep competition out. I think this only applied to the hospital property, but is certainly discouraging to other healthcare providers.
Healthcare is changing, and Lakewood is on the sidelines thanks to City Hall.

Dan,
Keep in mind that the “restrictive covenant” put forth by Sam O’Leary, Tom Bullock and the rest of the “democrats” on city council is the worst part of the deal. Lakewood residents deserves a hospital.
Healthcare is the hottest market in NE Ohio. It’s the main engine of economic growth.
I’d like to see the newer council members ask for a third party investigation into the closing of Lakewood hospital.

Mr. Eadeh,
Yes.
In addition to the noncompete--They gave away a fully operational hospital for FREE---high tech stat of the art medical equipment, bed licenses, physical hospital beds that were refurbished in 2015 with over a $1M of taxpayer cash, good will, over $50M of liquid portfolio assets etc.---and of course they cut free LHF's $35M portfolio of financial assets that supported Lakewoodites---ALL GONE TO AVON, FAIRVIEW, LUTHERAN AND THE EAST SIDE.
