To all the posters on this thread-- I have attempted to be "positively forward looking neutral". Having said that, I really appreciate the insightful post of Jeff Dreger and the extraordinary and should I say, courageous post of Iris Nejedlik.
Thanks to both of you.

I know that in France, everyone uses the same bathrooms. Although I am not 100% sure, I believe most of Europe is like this. Being transgender does not mean you are a sex offender or a child molester. A lot of these types of crimes are committed by family members or close family friends.

American College of Pediatricians: Abusive to Promote Gender Dysphoria Ideology

http://www.glennbeck.com/2016/05/16/ame ... -ideology/
According to the American College of Pediatricians, after puberty, as many as 88% of girls and 98% of boys will eventually accept reality and achieve a state of mental and physical health.

I agree, no need for fear and persecution, but there is also no need to normalize abnormalities and birth defects to the point where it exposes young girls to sexual harassment. Adults can do whatever they want but when the president of the united states sends a letter saying that any male, without parent or guardian permission asserts any gender identity they want can use any bathroom they want at any given time, it is creating a dangerous environment for today's youth. This is government forced sexual harassment.

Here is part of the insane letter Obama sent to schools in case people haven't read it. The entire letter can be found here - http://www2.ed.gov/about/offices/list/o ... gender.pdf
The Departments interpret Title IX to require that when a student or the student’s parent or guardian,
as appropriate, notifies the school administration that the student will assert a gender identity that
differs from previous representations or records, the school will begin treating the student consistent
with the student’s gender identity. Under Title IX, there is no medical diagnosis or treatment
requirement that students must meet as a prerequisite to being treated consistent with their gender
identity.6
Because transgender students often are unable to obtain identification documents that reflect
their gender identity (e.g., due to restrictions imposed by state or local law in their place of birth or
residence),7
requiring students to produce such identification documents in order to treat them
consistent with their gender identity may violate Title IX when doing so has the practical effect of
limiting or denying students equal access to an educational program or activity.

...

3. Sex-Segregated Activities and Facilities
Title IX’s implementing regulations permit a school to provide sex-segregated restrooms, locker rooms,
shower facilities, housing, and athletic teams, as well as single-sex classes under certain circumstances.12
When a school provides sex-segregated activities and facilities, transgender students must be allowed to
participate in such activities and access such facilities consistent with their gender identity.13
 Restrooms and Locker Rooms. A school may provide separate facilities on the basis of sex, but
must allow transgender students access to such facilities consistent with their gender identity.14 A
school may not require transgender students to use facilities inconsistent with their gender
identity or to use individual-user facilities when other students are not required to do so. A school
may, however, make individual-user options available to all students who voluntarily seek
additional privacy.15

 Athletics. Title IX regulations permit a school to operate or sponsor sex-segregated athletics teams
when selection for such teams is based upon competitive skill or when the activity involved is a
contact sport.16 A school may not, however, adopt or adhere to requirements that rely on overly
broad generalizations or stereotypes about the differences between transgender students and
other students of the same sex (i.e., the same gender identity) or others’ discomfort with
transgender students.17 Title IX does not prohibit age-appropriate, tailored requirements based on
sound, current, and research-based medical knowledge about the impact of the students’
participation on the competitive fairness or physical safety of the sport.18
 Single-Sex Classes. Although separating students by sex in classes and activities is generally
prohibited, nonvocational elementary and secondary schools may offer nonvocational single-sex
classes and extracurricular activities under certain circumstances.19 When offering such classes
and activities, a school must allow transgender students to participate consistent with their
gender identity.
 Single-Sex Schools. Title IX does not apply to the admissions policies of certain educational
institutions, including nonvocational elementary and secondary schools, and private
undergraduate colleges.20 Those schools are therefore permitted under Title IX to set their own
Dear Colleague Letter: Transgender Students Page 4 of 8
sex-based admissions policies. Nothing in Title IX prohibits a private undergraduate women’s
college from admitting transgender women if it so chooses.
 Social Fraternities and Sororities. Title IX does not apply to the membership practices of social
fraternities and sororities.21 Those organizations are therefore permitted under Title IX to set their
own policies regarding the sex, including gender identity, of their members. Nothing in Title IX
prohibits a fraternity from admitting transgender men or a sorority from admitting transgender
women if it so chooses.
 Housing and Overnight Accommodations. Title IX allows a school to provide separate housing on
the basis of sex.22 But a school must allow transgender students to access housing consistent with
their gender identity and may not require transgender students to stay in single-occupancy
accommodations or to disclose personal information when not required of other students.
Nothing in Title IX prohibits a school from honoring a student’s voluntary request for singleoccupancy
accommodations if it so chooses.23
 Other Sex-Specific Activities and Rules. Unless expressly authorized by Title IX or its implementing
regulations, a school may not segregate or otherwise distinguish students on the basis of their sex,
including gender identity, in any school activities or the application of any school rule. Likewise, a
school may not discipline students or exclude them from participating in activities for appearing or
behaving in a manner that is consistent with their gender identity or that does not conform to
stereotypical notions of masculinity or femininity (e.g., in yearbook photographs, at school dances,
or at graduation ceremonies).24

The American College of Pediatricians is a socially conservative group of between 60 - 200 doctors who advocate for anti- LGBT causes. On the other hand, the American Academy of Pediatricians has over 60,000 members and fully supports gay and trans rights

It's interesting that you would cite the niche group, and not the one with 60,000 members. Of course, the haters do love their echo chambers. It's nice because it keeps them from polluting mainstream society.

Iris,

Interesting how you didn't mention that Joseph Zanga was one of the founders of the American College of Pediatricians. He was a past President of American Academy of Pediatricians. Interesting how you think 0.03% of the population can be right about gender confusion but when it is a small group of doctors you go with the majority rule argument? Interesting...

So you think males should play on female sporting teams? What do you think about the rest of Obama's letter, do you agree with it 100%? Can we find any common ground or do you buy this hook line and sinker?

Yes, I support Obama's policy in full, and I look forward to it being implemented nationwide over the next decade. I want full transgender equality in public accommodations, sports, education, you name it.

As for the fact that we are less than 1% of the population - yes, we are. But the wonderful thing is that is not 1% against 99%. The vast majority of educated people on the matter - psychologists and physicians -recognize that gender identity and physical sex do not always match up. And as more and more people become educated on the matter, people who are overwhelmingly cisgender, they recognize this too. You don't have to be trans to understand the concept gender identity.

Hi Ryan,

As you are probably well aware, this was NOT an Obama issue until North Carolina made it an issue with the law it passed.

Our of curiosity, what is it that you are concerned about with having individuals select the bathroom of their choice? There has not been a spate of transgeneder bathroom crime that I can think of so, if you have any specific proof, I definitely would be interested to hear it.

Thanks!

Iris -

Thank you so much for coming on and sharing your story. I think it's easy for people to hurl insults when not considering the actual human beings they're talking about, and I'm glad you jumped on here to put a name in front of the name-calling. You should know that city council is considering a comprehensive human rights ordinance that includes protections for our trans neighbors. I hope you'll continue to make your voice heard.

And thank you for noting that the "American College of Pediatricians" is neither a college nor is it a medical association. We may end up having more people commenting on this single thread than they have members nationwide.

Let's hope that none of Ryan's 4 children are gay/trans . . .not having the support of your family could be the difference between life and death/suicide.

It feels so odd to be standing up for the protection of woman and to be called a freak bible thumping conservative. What happened to this world where in a couple of years logical thinkers get spun around due to fear of being called a hater or a bigot.

I could care less what adults do and regular bathrooms aren't an issue for me. The major concern most americans have is in locker room settings. Thsee rules open the door to perverts who just want to change in the opposite sex locker rooms and they can do it. Once an offical sex change occurs this is a non issue.

Matthew,

Great question. There are countless examples of women and girls being victimized by males getting naked in their locker rooms. I posted one example earlier. Do a search for males in female locker rooms and you can find a lot of examples that happened BEFORE the NC law.

These new rules eliminate indecent exposure entirely and are basically government forced sexual harassment.

Why can't these trans have the courtesy to think about how they make others feel and just accept changing in private stalls until they have a sex change? Why must 99% of the population be victimized seeing opposite sex nude when they don't want to?

This is common sense, which isn't common any longer....
