what restaurant buys a space? if what you say is true and a restaurant bought a spot in restaurant saturated Lakewood then they deserved to close. that's just business 101.

Actually, they are doing well, the BBQ placed closed. These guys have a niche market and solid food.

bought the actual space or the name? and who are "they" in case anyone wants to patronize them (maybe "they" want to do better than ok)?

1 (One) bought was told hospital would help.

2 (That One plus another One) people that bought restaurants and are doing well, one without hospital business.

Not that hard to follow. We were talking about restaurants effected, then buying restaurants.

So how does any of this relate to the hospital?

There seems no shortage of entrepreneurs intent on pursuing their dreams of opening or revamping their own restaurants. This could have something to do with a lack of jobs, spurred on by reality TV shows that glamorize the industry. But it is a tough business with trim margins. In a saturated market like Lakewood, anything less than a lean operation that provides outstanding food, service, price point, location, parking and atmosphere puts these businesses at risk.

How this relates to the hospital closing is now there are fewer jobs and fewer customers here, putting restaurants at greater risk of failure. That won’t stop them from trying but it also won’t help them succeed.

Subsidies may ease the pain but only postpone the inevitable. Businesses (and taxpayers alike) are going to have to adapt to the new circumstances or simply no longer be here by choice or consequence.

It's all very strange. The Plain Dealer describes the movement of 350 jobs from Lakewood to downtown as a wonderful boost to downtown development. Avon Lake City officials are excited about the 1,500 new medical jobs. What is our very own City Hall excited about? Losing 1,800 jobs. Oh yes, and the conversion of an office building into an apartment building with all the amenities and appearance of the County Jail.
Can someone from Build Lakewood explain this new development paradigm where losing jobs and economic activity is seen as a plus?

Can someone from City Hall explain it? Is there an explanation? Is there a policy?

Can someone explain why the people of Lakewood are not being warned that the new "Lakewood emergency room" is a danger to their health?

The Lakewood Center Building sold in foreclosure for about $3.5 million.

Imagine the possibilities if the City bought the building and worked with Metro and TRI-C and independent doctors and a new Lakewood Hospital Foundation and a new LHA committed to health care and development in Lakewood.
