Man, I wish our water bills would just have water bills in them.
There is nowhere to turn without the sickening effect of this situation. We know we can't use the normal channels of our own city to have fair representation. Our own council people say, "It's a terrible deal but we have no choice." Well, that wasn't true until they made it true. Our law director makes sure the petitions don't get turned in on time for the already-paid-for March ballot, then tells us if the citizens of Lakewood vote to overturn the Council's decision, following our own city charter, the Council just won't do it. Using the precedent of another time, years ago, when a road was being built. Our own representatives are PLEDGING to fight our own city charter. So then THAT will have to be fought. More time on this. More money wasted because we don't have a representative government anymore. Whatever rules can be bent, will be bent. Our representatives can't just do their jobs. It's all about the big gift to Lakewood of losing our hospital, and having our EMS times become terrifying.
Oh no! It'll be better! It'll be great! It won't. It can't. It's simple. We had a hospital. Several years ago we had a real Emergency room along with a real hospital. Now we have hype. We have worse than hype, we have a dangerous situation. Mr. Fitzgibbons has done the simple math, speaking of math. How many Emergency vehicles do we have? Where are they? How far did they have to go? When will they be back? How much sorting out do the drivers have to do? How much waiting will you have to do at home before an ambulance gets there? You'll have to call one because YOU WON'T KNOW WHERE TO GO. Then when you get wherever, will it be the right place? How long will you wait there to know?
The present Emergency room at Lakewood Hospital has been severely degraded. The "new one" won't be any better, it will be worse, it's not a real Emergency room at all. And again, the one we have now used to be a real one, but it isn't anymore either, it's not for life-threatening situations-- or as they say in other countries: "Emergencies."
Can we just have our water bills with the amount of the bill on them? Can you let up for one second with the hype? And if you insist---- THEN BREAK IT DOWN. EXPLAIN IT. Please, Mr. Mayor. If you can't break it down and make it make sense, can you please just LEAVE IT ALONE? Can we have a moment's peace from this sickening situation? Can you just let us pay our water bills?
Meg, I loved your very efficient explanation of what we used to have but it of course made me feel bad. It didn't have to be this way, but it is right now, yeah there is a lot more fighting to be done, in court and out of court, with other government institutions involved like even more courts and the AG's office, the FTC, others, as more facts/crimes are revealed.
But this thread is about the water bill. Another one, with hype on it, in it, the Mayor mis-using his position. Is the situation SO BAD that it can't be left alone for a second? Campaign literature has to be printed EVERYWHERE?
Next, you'll have to read about the great new situation we have in Lakewood before you are allowed to put a coin in a parking meter when you try to park on Detroit. (Incidentally, meters around Belle Ave and Detroit have gotten a lot easier to find lately, now that the hospital has become a ghost town.)

The quote above is from Rick Uldricks' "Lakewood Citizen". At that point last summer, he had a role in BL and City communications, although we haven't heard from him in awhile in that role.
It wouldn't be hard to obtain first-hand information - Sundays, 4 p.m., Library Multi-Purpose Room.

I respect the work and research that Brian has done. On the other hand, it is redundant and worthless to keep repeating the same information over and over again.
Lori, you need to reflect on these two sentences. This is exactly how I, and I am sure many more, feel about some of your posts too. Do you have any idea how many times you've let us all know that SLH has not capitalized on some of your research about campaign donations or taken your advice to get the judge to grant a continuance?

Mayor Summer is on record, at a news conference he called to say.
1) The Hospital is not closing.
2) There would be over $120 million in new development.
The LO did the math, The Mayor called us liars.
The Mayor owes the City a huge apology for those lies, and the new ones.

Hi Dan,
Not sure if you are referring to my quote. I found it by googling "believing doesn't make it so" under images. No author.
Thanks,

Therese,
The page breaks sometimes disrupt the continuity of these discussions. I was referring to Lori's quote about Brian Essi on the previous page.

Dan,
Thanks for making that point. SLH has no control over what I say or do. Nor do I have any control over what they say or do.
I cannot control how other people characterize me in relation to SLH or otherwise.
I am not representing any party on any matter concerning the hospital--I have no client in this affair-- nor am I providing any legal advice to anyone.
I am just a lone citizen presenting the facts and exercising my First Amendment rights.

Betsy & Meg,
All good points. The two of you always rise above the mudslinging to give context to those of us in the trenches.
Betsy's point about campaign literature being EVERYWHERE, underscores what a few in the "let's move on your beating a dead horse crowd" have misunderstood about the "here and now." Namely, our city leaders and Build Lakewood are not moving on--their "war on the people" continues right here and right now--even right before our eyes on the Deck.
Their weapon of choice in the war they started is "deceit"--both blatant and subtle misinformation, e.g. the water bill.
The primary weapon of the people to defend themselves against the government sponsored attacks is the "truth."
No matter how dull, redundant or blunt that weapon is, I will continue to use it to knock down the deceit in an effort to expose the "truth"
War is never pretty, and there is rarely "good news" during its course--except from the Ministry of Propaganda.
Mr. Kenny can pretend he is the UN or the Red Cross, but he has been exposed as member of the Ministry of Propaganda promoting one side in the "war".
How can the opposition declare a truce, when the side that started it has a "take no prisoners" policy?

Not that it matters to Kate (who is obviously just here to troll), but allow me to answer the question for the readers. An open bidding process would bring a new operator. Multiple operators expressed interest WITHOUT there ever being an open bid.
Kate is one of the many people that claims how unimportant the Deck is....while spending an awful lot of time reading the Deck.

Kate
I cannot answer who will run the hospital.
But i can say it was a horrible deal.
I can say we well most have not heard the truth.
The hospital was not losing money, the Clinic was anxious, that it was Mayor Summers who thought this was best for the city.
I cannot answer if the hospital would have stayed profitable.
What I can say, is the lying and misrepresentation have become the mainstay of this administration.
I am still answering the question, "Why did we need to do it?" Never answered honestly.
Now we find out the two groups hired to basically convince us the hospital needs to be sold have ties with prime players.
Kate as a hard core Republican, (like that you have gotten edgey like your leader Donald Trump) you have to be upset when $130 million in public assets are liquidated so that a small group, (that you have never agreed with in the past) can get their grubby mits on $20 million dollars to pay themselves to run their dream non-profit.
