So, here is an update list for those following at home:

Maura Zurick has a PD piece at http://www.cleveland.com/brooklyn/index ... ry_package.

Team Summers ... err ... Ed FitzGerald must really think Lakewood residents are stupid.

What is that they call us, Jim?

We are the 97% ... they are the "3%ers" ...

Well follow this line of reasoning:

Maura Zurick, cleveland.com wrote:"Well I've been an investor in this effort to try to have more community newspapers," FitzGerald said in a phone interview Thursday. He said he's "not a spokesperson or employee of the papers."

***

FitzGerald, former Lakewood mayor, says he's out of politics and not in the newspaper business.

***

FitzGerald said he wasn't sure why Brooklyn and Lakewood were the first papers to go out, but that the papers may expand to other communities.

So, in summary:

  • FitzGerald is just an investor.

    FitzGerald is out of politics.

FitzGerald is not in the newspaper business.

FitzGerald has no idea why the Lakewood paper went out first.

Everyone who believes FitzGerald please raise your hand.

Lakewood deserves better than four more years of Ed FitzGerald driving the Mike Summers Administration.

Now is the time to restore honest, transparent, and accountable leadership to Lakewood.

Note that the above is simply a parody of reality.

One time FitzGerald joked at a council meeting that after meeting with me for over 3 hours during the work day on a contentious topic that he should send me a bill. The audience laughed but some people didn't find that funny (namely my wife).

Mike - it's a shame that the term "meme" has also come to mean simple witty images shared online but it's origins and uses stem from genetics and actually played a big part in the thinking behind the Observer back in the day. You may remember conversations on spiral dynamics and its related memes before the paper launched. These forces are playing out like mad right now and the Observer isn't helping cross the divide like it was supposed to. So while at one time I would have just taken these things as light hearted jokes, I think its gone too far and there isn't much "outside looking in" going on anymore.

Anyone remember the "City, know thyself!" meeting? I don't even know who was there besides Jim and Ken Warren (RIP).
I do, Steve Davis, Heidi Hilty, Dan Slie, DL Meckes, Vincent O'Keefe, Stave Gross, Tara Zilger.

Vince, sometime I will talk with you about the truth behind Spiral Dynamics. You will laugh your ass off.

Vince, the deal was to know one city better than anyone has known a city. That includes the streets, the homes and the people. The way you know people is talk over a long period of time, judge them by what they say and do. Correct?

Just before Ken passed away suddenly we spent a lot of time together on his book, and our book. He loved the Observer and could not believe the people that still didn't get it or support it. It was the off shot of everything he believed. Ken did a lot of touring about the Observer, all over the country.
