Funny you should bring that up. I seem to remember a tall guy who looked kind of like you with a camera in the front yard of my building that day. Of course then I did not know who you were but I think my neighbor asked you if you were a cop.

So is the city cutting corners on their infrastructure repairs? The reason I ask is that we were told last year that they were going to repave Rockway. It got postponed due to the weather turning bad, so it was put off to this spring. So that meant it finally happened on this past Friday. It was lovely, it was that system where they melt down and recycle the asphalt, essentially repaving the road with the old asphalt that's been heated and remixed. So it looks lovely (the jury's out as to how long it'll last, because Franklin was done that way last year, and it's already getting beat up), but they only did 2/3 of the street. They did one side, and the middle, and have not done the other side.

Today I was told by a neighbor that the guys paving the street told him that they were only doing that much, and leaving the one side untouched. Apparently this happened the last time the street was paved; they only did half and let the other half go. The half they did this time was the one where people park their cars. Admittedly, it was full of potholes, but the side most of us drive on is also full of potholes, which were hastily and poorly patched.

So why not pave the ENTIRE street? I would think the whole thing would last longer than having to come back and just pave a half periodically. And this "recycling" procedure is cheaper than the usual scraping up the pavement and putting down new asphalt. So why not do the whole thing? And why not tell us ahead of time that no, they're really not repaving the street, they're just repaving half of it?

Very odd. Makes me feel a little cheated!!

They did that with Cook, then came back and finished today, a week and a half later. Not saying they are doing that, but it only really works when they do the entire street.

Do not go by Franklin or Archdale. On those streets they used 100% old. The city was then told they could bet a better fi\nish with 30% new with old. Not sure if that is what they are doing but the streets last year done that way are holding up nicely.

It did seem odd that they repaved the side the cars are parked on!

I am happy to move along over here. And I promise, I will only mention this once here, but I must be thankful for the Pit issue for several reasons,

I get to educate my neighbors which means I finally get to use the big mouth my mother warned me about for something good, and because without it all happening I would not have really started looking around this city and wondering what other issues are missing here, besides this one?

I also would not have had the opportunity to get thrust right into the midst of this community and had the pleasure of meeting some of the most intelligent, articulate, creative, caring, and well "outspoken" residents / neighbors and now many "friends" that I have. For that I am grateful.

Jim, you have continued to hammer at me, about leaving. The more I come here, the more I understand what you are saying about staying for those same people I have met. For that I thank you. Each day I find three more reasons why I should and want to stay....and only the one to leave remains...those are pretty good odds....I think I will hang around awhile...longer...and see what other trouble I can get myself into.

Now about the streets? Why have they completely skipped me? Both streets on either side, almost done or done and nothing for me? Our street is horrible, my tenants blame my big mouth.....LOL are they doing sections and moving back to others?

And on the trash issue. I fight that not only because I live in a high "foot" traffic area being right at the "end" of the Warren Plaza.....but right next to the tracks. Quick as I get it up, whoosh here comes the kids, then the train and it blow right back? AARGH.

And I just noticed (okay so I am not always observant) the Railroads brilliant idea of not having to come and cut the grass is to kill half of it off?
It looks horrible. Never mind that stuff tears up your cars and no warning when they are going to do it and wash those cars folks....

Why are they allowed to do that, it's so tacky and with the trash issue, and pot hole riddled streets it doesn't look like the "nice and neat" Lakewood I fell in love with 4 years ago when I moved here. Which btw was another reason I liked it here, after living in Cleveland....well I guess you can fill that sentence end in how ever you want...

I don't want to live in "Little Cleveland" .....or I would live there still and pay half in property taxes what I do out here?

you know what i would like to see...more services in the school systems for kids with special needs. i know that is a pipe dream, but i would love it.
i would also like Bunts repaved. LOL. I swear my kidney almost came out my nose when I was driving on it the other day. LOL.

i think there are many issues that almost every city faces daily. and it is hard to pick which one should be #1, #2 etc etc. Each person is different on what they feel is important.

Budget is number 1 to me. Getting the city out of debt without harming the citizens is huge. But that is just me....

I just started to read this thread and FWIW there are many business owners that are ambushed daily with stolen and abandoned grocery carts. My father, David Stein at Plantation Home and Lou McClung at Lusso Cosmetics just to name a few. Two weeks ago when I was going to my hair appt. I saw a boy about 11 or 12 ditch a cart on W. Clifton and Detroit by The Breadsmith. I asked him what he was doing and he said his Dad told him to leave it there. Dad said he had permission from The Dollar Tree on Sloane to leave it there. I called The Dollar Tree and they had no idea what the man was talking about. If we are all about clean and safe then we should enforce what we put on the books. We should ticket thieves and people who litter, we should enforce our laws about animals not discriminate the animal and we should ALL start to take pride in Lakewood and do our best to keep it safe and clean. Petty to one may not be petty to the next. And yes...I am one of those darn R words that takes the time to be a bit pro-active with little finger pointing at anyone or any party affiliation.

What about the police coverage of the West End on weekends. The fighting goes on and on.

Amen..... Jennifer well said, and spot on.

And you know what happens with carts all the time, they end up by the tracks, and some kid thinks it's cute to put it ON the tracks....right by my house....wonder the survival rate for the families over here if a train derails....scary. Don't think the cart issue is an issue, come live next to the tracks.

I love pro-active NOT reactive! Don't care if you are a (R), (D), (I) ....black , white, brown, or green with polka dots.....you have my respect.
