Well I believe we get to vote on a levy next fall, but it will have nothing to do with a seventh school.

However I am also willing to predict that someone will be made to look like a hero by "saving" Lincoln from being closed. The show will be all smoke and mirrors, and in fact it was going nowhere.

The PD is being spun heavily.

Maybe the better question is: Will residents support the levy if the Board buys out this final year of Dr. Estrop's contract?

The bester question is: Will residents support the levy once they find out that the board has been giving its employees a series of 6.9% raises?

Don't contract buyouts occur if the employee is terminated prior to the expiration of the contract term? I mean as opposed to submitting a resignation?

I might be mistaken, but I believe the "staircase" has been in effect for some time now. This would be nothing new, but a fair question in this day.

You are the lawyer. I was merely pondering if the city would support a levy, if the schools were to buy Dr. Estrop out of this final year of his contract.

The legal ramifications, is your deal.

This is a great discussion. And as Matt said, one we as a community need to continue over the next year.
I am looking forward to hearing from all concerned community members in the fall; we need to involve parents, tax-payers, the city development department and City government, as well as civic and business entities. The issue is complex. The discussion should broaden to include a city master plan and the needs of the greater community regarding the use of all the de-commissioned building sites.
There are also statutory requirements regarding the sale or reuse of School buildings to be considered. And as Bill Call said earlier, we must allow for population swings.
I hope see you all on the list of those interested in participating in the meetings once they are scheduled.

Thanks for jumping in. Hopefully we can get more members of the school board to show us they can use computers as well.

It is going to be a tough year, however the sale of Grant property would go a long way to helping make ends meet in the short term. It would seem that that while keeping Grant makes sense as it is located in the center of the city, but that location is also prime for sale$$$$$$$$. We know that Lincoln is safe and secure, so there is no reason to even ponder that. I would hate to see it used as some political tool by those not on the board, to suit their ambitions.

Then we have the problem of the Superintendent, publicly dissing the city and the school board as he searches for a new job, months into this contract. It has to be frustrating to be trying so hard, and reading some of the quotes that he gets out about Lakewood, and "no future for him." How many people figured if the man with a new contract sees no future for him, "why should we move there?"

Yes it is going to be a tough year or two for sure, but you got the schools built, and it would seem so many good things on track. One is the close working relationship the LO has recently formed with the Rec department, now if we could only get the rest of Lakewood Schools on board, I think we can help with the discussion, and the move into the future.

I know that you are a firm believer that Library, Residents, City, and now the School Board, working together, in the light of day, this city has nothing to fear, and nowhere to go but up. The LO is here to help expedite that effort.
