The 2/3 gifted teacher at Grant explained to the parents that students are kept together for two years for curricular reasons. In two years, they cover all of the required content for second and third grade. Because of the way the class is structured, they cover some subjects (e.g., earth science) in more depth than would a mainstream class. Because their units may be longer, they take two years to cover both second and third grade subjects. It's just structured in a different way.

I do know of one student, now in middle school, who had the same teacher in first and second grade at McKinley.

I have not had a student at Lincoln, but I do know that the gifted classes at Grant are excellent.
