You post reminds me of the words of Lorain mayor when asked why crime went up. "We decided to report all of them."

You cannot go by city crime stats, you have to go by the calls.

The facts are, River in lock-down, Bay and Westlake having a large upturn in burglaries. Listen to the scanner.

Could you provide me with the empirical evidence to support your claims about Lakewood's calls and if you would like the other communities. Honestly, I thought that we were preparing to elect our leadership not that of Rocky River, Bay and Westlake but if you feel that their situation has an impact on who we should chose in a few weeks, then by all means fire away. So, I'll be waiting for any sort of data other than your opinion that says somewhere else is in "lockdown" or has experienced buglary increases greater than 13-21%. Frankly, I can't picture myself listening to a scanner. But if you would like to prepare a verifiable argument based on what you hear, that's fine.
If you have the records of calls for Lakewood, I agree that would help to understand if crime is up, down, steady. So please add it in so we can have a more comprehensive analysis. If clearance or conviction data is available I also think that would be helpful.
I don't hate Lakewood but thanks for again proving how bad you are at having a discussion let lone debating an issue. What dissapoints me and I feel merits a response is watching those that say the have the city's best interests at heart being less than forthright about our situation. I've been open to more reports or data but perceptions and anecdotes about a pleasant stroll some evening do not qualify as evidence. This is not an opinion poll to me. When political opponents and their supporters are arguing topics that can be measured, it goes beyond how safe we "feel".

Now you're dealing with me.

And while the question as to whether I might be an old hippie or not might be in doubt, the fact remains that my hips are getting older every day.

I do enjoy so many of your posts.

I can't speak for Jim of course, but I do feel his frustration when people time and again bring up increased "crime crime CRIME" over and over without the data to support it.

Crime will unfortunately, always be with us, but this city is not in bad shape at all.

While we are looking at the number of crimes reported/called/or whatever - when the population decreases from 55,000 to 48,000 but the number of crimes remain the same this is an increase in percentage and that should not be ignored

So you see no use in comparing what is going on here to the immediate area around us?

You see no point in looking to see if we are doing better than the rest or worse.

Just change for the sake of change, and at that not even real change.

Just curious, seems an odd stance for an insurance man. I mean isn't that based on surrounding area, problems in the past, better or worse, how often it floods etc. Seriously.

David I would agree, but crime is a broad brush. we had council increas nusance and curfew violations, so the spike in "crime" could be that.

Also if everwhere is rising at say 5% and we are going up at .02% it should be noted.

Excellent website - hmmm crime wave - I think not.

Comparison to the rest of Ohio - not so much.

Comparison to the rest of the Country - priceless.

Also, I would like to point out that an Observer who didn't want to address me on the board, pm'd me that their political donations were their own business. Nope - public information folks.

Saw businesses on their who I won't be patronizing anymore - not going to vicariously contribute to their campaign giving.

It would appear that robbery, burglaries, auto theft and arson trended above average in 2006 (averaging the stats provided from 1999-2006) .

And down in murder, rape, aggravated assault which went down.

There are going to be adjustments of plusses and minuses from year to year, but we do come out pretty darn good.

The murder rate in 2006 was actual above the average rate but only by a slight margin. ( I excluded it because of the low margin) The average murder rate per year between 1999 -2006 was .875 and last year Lakewood had 1 murder.
