I fully believe such enterprises should be in front of the seller's house and not on a public street / intersection. That is all...c. dawson wrote: ...So if this girl was doing this in front of a house on a side street, would this still be an issue?

Call is Right
I think you are mostly correct, BC. Our future is more about housing--the core value of our city--than anything else. Still, more police on the street equals less crime, and I believe it is time to make that investment.

Seems easy, Call the Union, tell them you are willing to hire 30 of their unemployed brothers and sisters.
One catch, they have to live in Lakewood while they work here.
Could we make the 30 new police, "appointments"?

I'd guess the girl is a teen selling lemonade with her brothers. Something I did as a girl with my sister growing up in Lakewood. This girl was smart to choose a high traffic area to improve her sales.
I am ashamed of those of you who jumped on a anti- section 8 housing bandwagon when Jim posts a pciture of a young girl selling lemonade on the street! I'm not sure if it was supposed to be funny or what, but the immediate response was basically "we need to get these black people out of Lakewood". Racism has divided every other community in our area where people of color have moved; why not let Lakewood be the first to deal with the real issues rather than shun people due to their (or their PARENTS) incomes!

Her lemonade is cheaper then the kids I saw on Arthur. They were asking $1 per glass. They must have marked up the price due to their location. And I still don't like the fact of any kid being so close to the street without parent supervision. Jim, was a parent there?Jim O'Bryan wrote:Dave Sharosky wrote:I hate to play parent here but, is that DQ at lauderdale and detroit? How old is she? And isn't she right next to the street? Where's her parent(s)?
I am figuring about 30 - 35 years old.
Joe
Here is the sad story it looks like it was marked down to $.050.
The could have cleaned up Detroit like the YMCA did for two days.

How is this a race issue?
How is Section 8 a race flag?
Just curious how you got to race in this, at least from me?

What, I am not allowed to be anti section 8? From my point of view, it (section 8 housing) has done nothing positive for the city of Lakewood. Black or white has nothing to do with this issue. It is all about the culture of Lakewood changing..Annie Stahlheber wrote:I'd guess the girl is a teen selling lemonade with her brothers. How about senior citizens and Section 8 or have you just forgotten that.
And no one said she was homeless. Just because she keeps her overhead low is not a good reason to criticize her.
And Jeff I know you meant well - but not all whites who benefit from Section 8 are trailer trash.
I heard this woman was just trying to get start up funds for the police levy.

You're killing me!
I have to believe that Section 8 housing follows along the same break down as Welfare, which would mean whites(whatever that means) are the majority as well.
I try to look at everything pretty color blind. Our problems in Lakewood are behavior, not race, not religious.

It's amazing what one photo can do. I've heard sec 8 talk, someone talking racism, I'm flying off the handle about parenting, cleaning up the area, etc...
Now having said that... does she have a permit to sell on city owned property? Do you think she'll make over $599? Should we contact the IRS and 1099 her? I don't like to be solicited while walking. These kids and their lemonade. Why aren't they taking the road many youth seem to be today....don't work and try to make money the honest way, just steal it.
