Stan,

Not only did the Mayor and Dottie say that the dog park would not be closing, they provided a key piece of information. Rocky River officials have long contended that the noise levels from the park violated both Lakewood and Rocky River noise ordinances. Mayor George was able to report that recent noise level tests do NOT in fact exceed acceptable levels. Mayor George went on that say that animal control officers have been monitoring noise from the park and again it does not violate noise ordinances (Jim, your ears are functioning properly).

Congrats to the Mayor and to Dottie for protecting one of Lakewood's valuable assets. We'll be there to support you next June when the issue comes up again!

I can't imagine the accoustics of the valley would carry sounds only to Rocky River!
Come by sit on the porch enjoy an ice tea or beer. The only real noise that bothers me is when the wind is out of the south the jets at Hopkins sound like they are taking off from in front of my house.

It is amazing how that sound travels and I am sure they hear it on the otherside of the Emerald Canyon. I just shrug, life is to short to whine constantly.

ooooh, how about adding a cat park nearby? That should add to the fun! Though actually, the one thing I've witnessed in the dog park that really seems to get them going is when there's a squirrel in one of the nearby trees.

Seriously though, that dog park is a fantastic asset, especially because of it's size. I've seen other dog parks that aren't much bigger than a fenced-in back yard. Ours has a lot of room for dogs to run and stretch out their muscles. A complete spaz like my dog really appreciates it, since our yard is pretty darn small. And I appreciate even more than him, because when he comes home, he's exhausted, and not tearing up the house!

Sound does carry oddly around there, because I can always hear church bells when we're there ... perhaps from St. Christopher's in Rocky River? I definitely can hear the jets go by. Certainly that is a bigger problem? Perhaps Councilman Gollinger should request that Hopkins Airport move? Or maybe that the church bells no longer ring? How about banning motorcycles in the valley? They make some noise.

How about banning the hot air coming from politicians? Nahhh, that's our most important renewable energy source. But regardless of that, I'm glad Mayor George is sticking up for the park!

Thanks to everyone for coming out to the meeting.

I especially want to recognize August Armstrong, president of Friends of the Lakewood Dog Park. Under her leadership the park has made tremendous strides. It is wonderful volunteers like August that have made Lakewood a great town.

in the good old days people would just let their dogs out of the house in the morning. The dogs would wander around and return at night or just disappear. It even worked on the Little Rascal/Our Gang movie shorts.

We can't do this today because of all the pitbulls. But it is still a good idea.
