Lakewood's Children need our help

We might add that the purpose of this meeting is primarily to establish a committee. We are hoping to have The Lakewood Foundation function as the fiscal agent for the Kids Cove maintenance project, and they require that a committee be formed. At that point, we will hopefully be able to accept donations through the foundation. We also have people ready to write grants and seek funding, in addition to the pledges of financial support businesses and individuals have put forth.

The idea is not to form a new organization, simply to work within the structure that already exists here in Lakewood. We're not looking to point fingers, just to ensure that the playground continues to serve the needs of Lakewood's children and others who use the park.

Please join us on Thursday. Bring your positive attitudes, energy and good ideas. The meeting will be brief, and will conclude by 8pm.

Isn't there a company that will provide an estimate free of charge?

I have worked with a wide variety of companies over the years and this is the first one that I have heard of that charges a significant sum.

I think I would look into "selling" everything that broke to the original supplier's competitors.... They could use it as a great display on why to NOT buy their competitor's stuff.

I was going to do the same thing with a skylight that started leaking after the warrenty expired. Told Pella that I was selling the defective piece of Junk to Veralux for use in their home show displays. They decided to buy it back for the original purchase price.....

I sent Joe a PM last week regarding this Thursday as not good for a meeting at bela dubby. We haev an art opening on Thursday the 7th.

Thanks for letting us know. Not sure how we missed the message, but I think Wednesday will work fine. We'll send out some new messages and make a few phone calls. I thought art openings happened on Saturdays.

OK, everyone, the meeting is this Wednesday, 6:45 at Bela Dubby. We'll try to post an agenda before the meeting time, though the purpose of the meeting is primarily to set up a committee so we can convince the Lakewood Foundation to function as our fiscal agent.

Just for the record, no money has been spent yet, for consultants or any other purpose. Of course we'd like to be as frugal and efficient as possible, while carrying out the rehab and maintenance. However, the goal is to DO IT RIGHT, and that will require spending some money. Any reasonable thoughts and ideas will be welcomed.

I'm afraid I don't understand what you are referring to. I reread this thread and really haven't seen any negativity but potential strategies to deal with the supplier. I agree there are people in this town who are always negative but I woud not count any of the people who posted to this thread among them.

I appreciate the initiative you have taken to address this problem and I think bringing lots of good ideas to the table will only help the cause. Please post with the new meeting time as soon as possible. I would be happy to help out in any way I can.

The new meeting time is this Wednesday the 6th (instead of Thursday) at 6:45. John from Bela Dubby tells us this time will work better.

Thanks to everyone who made it to the meeting this evening, and the others who've pledged to help with the project.

The basics:
1. The project committee has been formed. Areas in which we could use more coordinators are fundraising and volunteer coordination.
2. The project has been dubbed "Care For Kids Cove" and printed literature will be available soon for circulation.
3. A website will be online very soon, complete with message board. Stay tuned for the details and a link.
4. The committee names and contacts will be submitted to the Lakewood Foundation later this month, and it will hopefully approve the project so fundraising can begin.
5. Local carpenters will be enlisted to help determine exactly what work needs to be done, what safety concerns need to be addressed, and to help plan a maintenance schedule.

The goal of providing ongoing maintenance to the playground is within reach, and together we can continue to provide a safe, inclusive, and fun place for children to play and grow.

Tom missed you at the meeting. That's OK Joe and Holly have this thing going, but could still use some more volunteers and or money if you prefer.

The website should be online this weekend, which will provide all the information you need on meetings, and where to send any help.
