For what it is worth, I've told two candidates for Mayor that every time they attack their opponents they lose three points. Every time they offer an idea or a specific they earn one point.

Candidate with the most points gets my votes.

Well stated, Bryan.

Ryan Salo, was it a "ridiculous debate" before or after Mr. Mandel's agreement to participate?

Please, oh please, Ryan, save us from rushing to snap judgments and share your vast and deep wisdom and knowledge of that particular Solon debate.

We ignorant Observers are in need of your guidance.

Again, please find the time to save us from ourselves.

I am pledged to secrecy. All I can say is that they are not the current Mayor.

The city is facing some real crises in the future and a plan, no, a vision is needed. Whoever in the end has a plan, a vision, and is able to actually lay that out with facts on how they will accomplish it will have a leg up in my book.
Hopefully most of us will agree that this is what is lacking in this city. I don't think most people truly understand how dire the financial needs of the city are. I want someone to give me some hope, I don't want someone to sit idly by while the city goes bankrupt. I understand that tough choices need to be made. I understand tightening our belts but I haven't seen that. I want a plan and I admire most of council because they get that. The big thing that came out of the CSU study was that people in this city want action and we aren't getting it. I just want a leader that will give their plan and their vision and then act. Do that and you will get my vote.

On the contrary, Colleen, Councilman Demro's post/announcement has my interest. I just though I would poke fun at Mr. Salo's response to Stephen's quick Google search.

David,

Didn't know you liked me so much. :)

No real wisdom here, just pointing out that the voters still came out to help him win by a landslide. I guess that debate didn’t mean much to them, so why is it so important here?

Jim,

No announcements from me, while it was a fun experience, I found that the voters preferred the status quo to new ideas and action so I am investing my time elsewhere where I can get more accomplished.

Yes. An uninformed electorate is always preferred.

Oh please! How is the electorate going to be informed by knowing if Rep. Mandel was going to vote for Strickland or Blackwell? They already knew he was a Republican. Perhaps if questions were going to be asked that would do more than evoke partisan hate he would have participated. If it was just going to be a "your an evil republican bash fest" who can blame him for skipping it and doing more important things like actually speaking to the public about real issues.

I think the answer to that question would be rather telling.

A majority of Republicans, that I know, did not vote for Blackwell. Even a friend of mine that worked for the RNC in D.C. voted for Strickland.

Ryan -

So, politicians who find themselves 20 points up in the polls shouldn't follow through on debate date commitments made two months prior? Politicians not living up to a commitment thing is just a pet peeve of mine. (I also believe any member of any elected body - House, Senate, Council, other - should resign their positions immediately before beginning a candidacy for any other elected position. Furthermore, they should be forced to reimburse the local Board of Election for any costs in running a special election if one is required.)

Thanks, also, for your insight as to why Ward 1 wasn't wise enough to elect you to council. Now we favor the status quo and inaction. How could we have been so foolish to reject you.

On a serious note, it does take guts to run for anything and I appreciate your willingness to step out last time around. Does your "investment of time elsewhere where you can get more accomplished" involve any of the issues you brought up during your recent run at council? Nothing is more refreshing to hear than a civic minded person, like yourself, continuing to fight for what they believe in despite falling a few votes short in an election.

On the other hand, it's hard to blame an electorate for rejecting any candidate when they feel the candidate's commitment to campaign platform policy is completely dependent on election results and not part of a larger pledge.

Personally, I had a wonderful time engaging all the contestants and discussing a number of great opportunities facing Ward 1 and all of Lakewood and do not feel we are impoverished by our selection. I'm sorry you feel otherwise.

I have to laugh at this thread. More specifically, the attacks on someone coming to town for some kind of announcement, just because he comes from another point of view.
I actually came hereto find out news regarding the High School arrest I heard about on the radio today, but I guess this type of behavior isn't an important discussion for you people.
Next time I need to find out news about Lakewood, I won't be coming here.

Joe,

You actually came to a thread named "Community Rally for Lakewood's Future" to find out news about "the High School arrest"?

Next you need to find out specific news about Lakewood, you should probably choose a more appropriate thread, or start a new one.
