Okay, you want an act that we normally would have to pay for, huh? How about the Gypsy punk stylings of Gogol Bordello in concert with the Lakewood Project, since both acts have a certain focus on the fiddle. I have seen these dudes a few times in as many years and they put on a hell of a show. It is foot stomping music with a serious folk bent to it. Their violin player Sergie could give a master class with the kids of the Project and I would then get my initial wish in this thread with the larger need for a national act.

Okay, I'll share with you my guilty pleasure - American Idol, but from the ratings - I'm not the only one and we could draw fans from some distance. I'd love to see Scott Savol, Cleveland's American Idol from season 4. Maybe some other local favorites as well?

Now we are talking. I was actually working on something to help motivate those not in the Lakewood Project, as they seem motivated already. But this thought process falls in with where we are headed.

Does this mean you want to head the project?

Perfecto! The concept of world quality culture/music joined to unique educational opportunities and entertainment has a great deal of merit.

If any community/institutional collaboration is required, I will talk to the Friends of Lakewood Public Library.

Better check with Beth Hankins before you start making plans.....It's really her baby, and outside help, suggestions and direction may not be welcomed with open arms.

I don't think we are at the contract signing phase, yet.

This is just brainstorming. Maybe Beth reads the Observer site and might comment? I keep throwing them into my brainstorming because I am mad that every time they perform, I have some other obligation!!

I am sure they have their own plans for how their year looks. I think whatever music event happens, it would be nice to mix some local with the global/national flavor. I remember reading about a local DJ who has a larger following outside of Lakewood. Maybe someone like that mixed with a more nationally known talent. Or maybe a local chorus like the Singing Angels (known world wide, of course) singing with the Harlem Boychoir. Things like that.

As for me heading it, when was THAT a part of the brainstorm!!! :shock:

Maybe when my newest baby is older I would think about stuff like this. At best, I can offer to help out. Heck, I would love to make the call to Gogol Headquarters to find out how to book them!

As a part of these brainstorm ideas, who is paying for this gig? How much of a budget are we looking at using?

Well, I guess that depends on what kind of a fund raiser YOU'RE going to organize, and what kind of a target YOU want to set for YOUR goal. YOU may want to look into corporate sponsorships. :lol:

I think this would be closer to a FUN-raiser. While many said we couldn't do it, together we are doing it. Every once in awhile those that work, need some fun.

As we grow the Lakewood Observer Project we try to remain dedicated to our mission statement. Learn as much about Lakewood as we can, and have fun doing it.

This year was good, and we had a little fun. Next year will be better. The paper, the website and even the Observation Deck will be going through changes, all in an effort to improve our service to the community, and for the benefit of all.

Of course, the devil is in the details. :twisted:
