I like how you quote a previous post and cut it off in mid sentence to try to alter its meaning...might work on cleveland.com or craigslist, but we are too smart for that here on the Observation Deck.

Yes Jim that's the box. Thanks for posting a photo of it. As for being tough on them, I know you are saying that in jest, but I don't think I am being tough on them at all. First thing in the morning I will be calling AT&T. I will then be calling the city. I want that box and for that matter all the other ones taken care of immediately. I think it is unfortunate that it appears the city is letting maintenance slide already unless they like the look of tagged and antiqued utility boxes.

Doug,

I know that most of you on the Observation Deck are smarter than I am.

I'm sorry that I cut off your sentence. Here is the part that I quoted.

DougHuntingdon wrote:That one is going to be very tough to keep graffiti free, as that area is a high pedestrian traffic area for riff raff, due to its proximity to the high school

Here is the part that I left out.

DougHuntingdon wrote:, the 326 bus stop, and other reasons.

While I originally couldn't make the connection between riff raff from the high school, or a particular bus stop, I can fully understand "other reasons" as a problem. Thank you for the clarification. I will be more careful in the future.

I don't read every post on the Observation Deck. Frankly, most are over my head. I did notice, though, in a recent post on a thread called "New to Lakewood....where do I move to??" that you called an area of Lakewood "sexual predator central". I know that this is a fragment of what you said, so I am providing a link to that topic.

I know it seems like I'm picking on you, but there are a lot of smart people on the Observation Deck that sometimes throw out "facts" that can really confuse those of us that are of lesser intelligence. So please try to be more careful. Sometimes I get very afraid because of the things you say.

I don't think you're confused, and you certainly seem like no dummy. I am no genius, but I know The LO Observation Deck is a great place. However, unlike many on this board, I have no hidden agendas. I have no ties to the movers and shakers of Lakewood--neither the obvious ones like politicans and prominent business owners nor the ones who pull the strings behind the scenes like perhaps the Masons and Kiwanis. :D

Having said that, I think one of the things that makes the LO Observation Deck a great place is that everyone is given an open forum, whether you are a 100 year old retiree in the Westerly, a government school employee, the mayor, a city sanitation engineer, famous sign business owner, or a celebrity like Bob Becker.

These days I try to stay away from stating any opinions about city government, government schools, local politicians, etc., as I have been demoralized by my perception of the extreme onesidedness on many issues by the vast majority of participants on this board. Sure all the peas are not identical, but sometimes they seem like they are all from the same pod.

I try to keep my posts limited to general items like rental advice, cheap RAM alerts, factual inquiries about the Hall House (no longer do I state my opinion on the Hall House), Lightspeed box sitings, Indian grocery stores new in town, which denominations of churches exist in Lakewood, etc.

For the person looking to rent/own in Lakewood, I gave straightforward and honest advice. As previously mentioned, I am sorry if you or anyone else who lives on Newman or other streets I mentioned in a negative manner were offended. I don't live in a $1.4 million house near Clifton Lagoon--I live in a microscopic apartment. Here is a sexual offender link for you:

http://sheriff.cuyahogacounty.us/offendersearch.asp

It looks like a few sexual offenders have moved out since I last checked, but Newman Ave still has 4 listings. The only streets that appear to be close are ones that run the whole length of Lakewood like Clifton and Madison. You can count them yourself. I do not make things up. My count of 4 includes the one for which there is an outstanding warrant--okay I grant you that maybe that's cheating. For those who don't know, Newman Ave is a very short street that only goes between Detroit and Madison. I am sure there are some very good people who live on Newman, as there are on any street in Lakewood.

Doug

PS It sounds like you probably haven't spent much time on the 326, either. Maybe we can organize a LO outing. We could meet at Winking Lizard, get dessert or pop to go and eat/drink by the bus stop bench by the Giant Eagle Lightspeed box, and then ride the 326 all the way downtown around midnight...and no one is allowed to ride near the front of the bus by the driver.

took a drive home earlier on clifton, and one of the tagged and beat up boxes was being noted by a guy with a clipboard...

maybe this thread is raising a few eyebrows? 8)

Doug,

Good post.

Your information about sex offenders was informative. Much preferred to "sexual predator central".

I'm still unconvinced about the riff raff, etc., though I can guess what you were getting at, maybe.

Most often, I think we all express ourselves in shorthand. When we do, we run the risk of confusing, or misleading others, or at least not communicationg what we intended. To be practical, we obviously have to take those risks because time is a limited resource for all humans.

Your facts AND opinions are welcome here. Like you, I have facts and opinions. Sometimes I will alter or interchange either for mine or others' entertainment, or to make a point. I usually don't leave others in the dark too long about what the truth is. Sometimes just a wink will do. Just so everybody knows which is which.

I'm going to steal another Observer's signature file (She stole it too.) to finish up here.

P.S. And boy, how about those AT&T Lightspeed boxes?!? Huge graffiti magnets, huh?

to whomever it applies: whether its Lightspeed boxes or something else, if you get out of your car and turn off the tv, you will see a whole new world. I am perhaps the only one in Lakewood who is carfree and tvfree.

I'm still hoping JOB or someone can develop a poker run or relay race with all the different boxes. If it costs money, we could just call Denis Dunn to get AT&T to cough it up.

September 24, The Lakewood Motoring Society with Brad Babcock will hold our fourth annual Lakewood Rally to benefit The Lakewood Family Room.

This fun event, will take in almost 24 miles all in Lakewood, and will take all participants on streets I promise most have never seen. The average speed is such that I have been told a biker can keep up, but walking might be tough. Stop by at Lakewood Park and maybe we can get you in a vehicle. If you have a motorcycle license I can lend you a scooter.

I think ALL who stop, and take part will enjoy this brand building event.

The Family Room needs and deserves the support.

Scoring will be at Around the Corner starting at 1:30pm.

Who knows if we will hit all the boxes.

As far as walking the city, I know more than a handful of us do it each week delivering papers, and we are always going to new neighborhoods. I would encourage all to give it a try.

Yesterday I noticed the eastern corner of Fry and Clifton has been graced with a lovely lightspeed box, in front of the dog building (Drake), complete with ample RUSTic charm similar to those shown in some JOB photos.

Perhaps the planting of the lightspeed boxes is an attempt to blight an area so that it can be taken with eminent domain some day.

Doug

PS Thanks Jim for the info. Good luck with the Motoring Event.

That would actually be the op being run by that bedding company that has been going out of business since before they opened, but that is for a future story. Funny how many groups are actually trying to run down property values, and it has nothing to do with taxes, and everything to do with buying Lakewood at the lowest price they can.

Thanks for the kind words.
