The story hit China!
It's just the AP edition, but it is in the "China Daily"

Call 60 Minutes to do the story on citizen journalism! Jim Salleet might still have the number.

Incredible! The entire world gets it wrong! While Phil laughs from his jail cell.
Jeff
It occurred to me that while many parents might not want their kids exposed to the horrors or re exposed. I just do not buy it. I know the family names of the kids but everyone has kept them very quiet.
We have businesses and associated that "helped" the evil friar to work his BS. What do you call the owner of a business that allows a very strange 33 year old man bring young boys into your place night after night, you record name and know none belong to him. then you allow him to have keg parties even though the kids are underage, and the business has no license?
OK when that man get arrested for 74 counts of molesting children, and you refuse to turn your list of kids over now what do you call them?
3 years in River, 3 in Columbus, 2 in Lexington, St; Louis where his roommate is serving a life term I believe, California and more. 20 years working with kids, and he was very close to setting up a "kid factory" and wanted Charter School money on top of it.
Imagine how bad it could be and let me assure you it is not even close to how bad Phil is. If he only did the same at every school he did in Cleveland that would be 370 counts, multiple by ten and I would put that at the low end of the spectrum.
With no work just phone calls I know of 3 Lakewood mothers ready to drop off kids daily for sitting and schooling. Two mothers had 2 kids one had 3, talk of even more. Talk of even more. 4 or 5 real schools where he worked. He said he was a pedophile for twenty years. Not this was his first time!
And the Chinese News picks up Distasio's words and reprint them. CNN, MSNBC throw out the "Distasio Doctrine." Phil is playing them just like he said he would.
I would want my parents to protect me and represent, what could be better for the low self esteem that comes for some, than a little revenge. I know I would not want my mother to just forget the whole thing.

Jim, I can certainly relate to your anger! Ohhh, as someone whom repeatedly reported him and with probable cause, and to the agencies that had jurisdiction, I am not at all feeling good - still. No matter what media covers about this case, it leaves me with an ill-feeling, since reports do tend to convey the "DiStasio Doctrine."
I've myriad questions of my own, only I doubt they will ever be met with satisfactory answers. Like, ohh, how come not a single agency probbed deeper when Phil presented the opportunities - time and time again.
There is something here that maybe motivates more parents to not contact authorities: They willingly thrust their own vulnerable children directly in DiStasio's path. That was the intersection and one which, possibly, parents do not want to be questioned about. Like... uhmmm, a legit. school was being run from a dirty apartment? did they check with the board(s) of education to ensure that the fake friar's school was legit before swapping their children for ... you name it? (could it be drugs?)
Media can continue acting as if the b.s. friar crawled out of some hole so magically and materialized to launch his "school," only: it all flies against the face of the facts.
His (further) acts could have been prevented. I know. I tried. And, so did others. But... no one can force law enforcement agencies to act on verifiable information.
I guess they must have been just too darn busy, although numerous hours - and countless dollars - were spent by myself and one of my attorneys, whom had also been harassed by Phil D., reporting him. Fat lot of good it did. I just hope the parents whom may have been sucked in (by the perv/fake friar) realize some people did care and we did our very best! We didn't fail; the system did not fail. Law enforcement - to whom he was reported - made a choice to accept reports, cross-reference reports and, for whatever the lame rationale, did squat with the information.
In light of admissions that the perv Phil made following the murder to which you alluded, Jim, I still cannot find a reason why he was not charged with obstruction - at the very least. That would have effectively placed his name within the "system." But, then, again, that case also led the presenting prosecuting attorney to erroneously state that the murderer, whom Phil befriended and defended, was a member of NAMBLA, which nearly led to a mistrial since that was not true. (All whom monitored the killer, before the crime, knew that, so the prosecutor was likely seeking to engender sentiment among jurors; he made a huge mistake). Fortunately, Phil's perv friend copped an Alford plea rather than face re-trial; it was fortunate to the prosecutor whom nearly blew an (otherwise) iron-clad case.
Digust? Yep, I feel it. And... so should others; the agencies to which Phil DiStasio was reported shrugged off the information which would have placed him under increased scrutiny.
I know that you, and others, get what I'm saying. And... because he is a mere trickle when one considers his peers, too: It is even more sickening.
BTW: I also reported another proactive perp in C. County. He's still doing his "thing," so... that report obviously fell on deaf ears as well.

In reading the article, I noticed that Mr. Eichenwald also made reference to pedo-run Sure Quality Radio (SQR).
What isn't noted in the article is that on August 11, 2006, the founder, Jeffrey Wayne Russell (also known as Jeffrey "Gold"), was arrested in Lee County, FL, along with his SQR DJ roomie Matthew Fox:

Just when I started thinking that he could not possibly behave more "uniquely," P. DiStasio pulls another stunt to save his own skin. I just read the article:
Pedophile suspect questions own sanity
Rocky River man seeks 3rd evaluation

Uhmm, he's been evaluated twice and found competent to stand trial. What more does he want? He claims that one of the doctors "advised him how to hang himself after he arrived in prison - an allegation the doctor later denied."
Haa haa! Ohhh, that's good
. Or... maybe it's dramatic irony
. Whatever it is, as with the prosecution, the burden of proof is on DiStasio to prove it. If the doc did suggest it, way too cool! My hero.
Here's my theory: The reality of what's going to happen when he goes to prison has settled into DiStasio's thoughts. He's gonna meet someone bigger and none too pleased with how he's acted. Fun times are ahead for him!
I also just watched the video here:
http://www.newsnet5.com/news/9748306/detail.html
He may as well utter the words: Nola contendere.

This is the last time I comment on this case.
In a letter I got from Phil before the arrest, when he knew the Observer was working to put him away. Explained that if he gets arrested he would make sure that he was the most visible, most well known, most expensive prisioner of all time.
It would seem, he is getting exaclty what he wanted.
How sad.

What comes from the case is one thing. The lessons learned, the trouble spots, etc. But I will not let Phil win this one with even one more comment of him. I pray he dies in prison, a forgotten side note in a sick world.
It is also very fristrating to know that the 75 counts should probably be closer to over 1,000 but mainstream media has never bothered to get the facts right or do even a small amount of work finding the truth.

I worry that the case they have now doesn't hold up and that he is merely given a token amount for what was on his computer. The children are handicapped, and who knows what we be said if anything. As I always point out he worked at 4 schools and one rec enter in his years here. At each school he was moved around and then let go. I know of one Lakewood business that had 20 children names associated with him, that business also hosted beer parties to support the good work of the friar! I know of at least 4 parents that had spent time with him and their kids, everyone has seemed to forget, in an effort to protect themselves or the children. When parents and businesses protect themselves instead of their children!
