What happened to "health and wellness"? Or even "illness and injury"?

It makes me wonder if this kind of commercial development wasn't the plan right along. They've been trying for a long time in other places around town.

And if it turns out that the hospital goes away, I'd be disappointed if there were no rec center on the drawing boards. It's poor second choice for me, but at least it relates to health and is something a lot of people in town can benefit from.

But the case for keeping the hospital is very strong.

Dan

You should have learned at Kauffman Park.

They will tell you anything, and hope confusion and lack of discourse will allow them
to land another "slam dunk."

As I have written for over a decade a very small group of people running our city into the
ground, helped by good meaning people that have not a clue what their leaders are really up to.

As I have been described the process of the other night it reminded me of a variation of the "3-card-monte" a street game.

4 walls of writing, one contained "the rules" the other 3 contained the "topics for the night."

It was not really the "bring your big dreams" as promised, but tell us what you like, or
potential do not like about these three "great" ideas...

From Wikipedia...
Three-card Monte — also known as Find the Lady or the Three-card Trick — is a confidence game in which the victim, or mark, is tricked into betting a sum of money, on the assumption that they can find the money card among three face-down playing cards. It is the same as the shell game except that cards are used instead of shells.[1]

In its full form, Three-card Monte is an example of a classic "short con"[2] in which a shill pretends to conspire with the mark to cheat the dealer, while in fact conspiring with the dealer to cheat the mark.

This confidence trick was already in use by the turn of the 15th century.[3]

That explains why I kept checking to see if my wallet was still in my pocket throughout that meeting.

Mr. O'Bryan: You are advertising your commitment to "getting all the facts" on the hospital situation. But you are engaging in speculation and innuendo regarding discussions at a public meeting that you chose not to attend.

I was there. The City Planning Department presented several options for what could be done with property if the hospital is removed. The idea was to get citizen input regarding what kind of development they would like. People gave feedback and planning department members wrote that feedback on the boards.

Implying something sinister regarding the "right kind of people" is offensive to those who were there and to the City Planning Department. I encourage you to attend the next meeting.

The Mayor spent the last 3 years pushing a recreation center. Was there any discussion of this at the meeting?

If there is a new development where will all the customers park?

The LHF, some members of Council and a member of the LHA have said that one purpose of the new Foundation would be to provide transportation to Avon so the people of Lakewood could see their doctors. Was there any discussion of the needed transportation infrastructure and cost of such a program?

Jay,

I was there and I don't find Jim's comments to be offensive.

What I did find offensive about the three "Lakewood Hospital Redevelopment Concepts" and the whole meeting was the City currently has:

1. no market studies,
2. no traffic studies,
3. no idea of the retail tenants who might come,
4. no estimate of the number of retail workers,
5. no estimate of the number of residents who might occupy the proposed dwelling,
6. no estimate of the number of workers who would occupy the proposed office buildings,
7. no idea of the traffic and cars that might come to visit the offices or shop at the theoretical retail establishments and
8. no estimates of taxes or even how much the theoretical developers might need to invest.

One resident commented that the developers will want to design and build what they want. Mr. Siley responded: It's our land we can tell them what we want them to build."

Another resident commented that the "Strictly Business" scenario (the only scenario that might come remotely close to replacing the economic benefits of the hospital) was "fanciful."

Jay

I was told, no questions just comments about what was presented. That is not true?

I could have brought my "big dream" there?

Jay, this city has a habit of running screwy bogus study after another. The history of them
are well documented on this website. Those getting caught are players in this. Now I
realize that people then leave and marginalize the Deck because people hate getting
caught, but I have every right to question this.

As for "advertising" ok let's say that is what is going on. In our white paper used to form
this project, far more than the "mission statement" we wrote, "and have fun in our search..."

Anything else you want to tell me about me, errr ask?

Or the project?

Or the Hospital deal?

Or whatever?

Every scenario presented that night held much more "risk" than keeping the hospital on the site.

Class A office space: no commitments from any business to actually move in to Lakewood were mentioned.

More retail space: aren't there enough empty spaces in Lakewood to fulfill that need?

New townhouses: is there a demand for $200k+ townhouses in Lakewood? What about the Rockport project?

Is this really the Westend Project 2.0?
