It's one thing to close Lakewod Hospital, it's another to tear down that beautiful solid funtioning historic building. Today, the hosptial has patients, doctors, nurses, lights, water, heating/ac, everything that makes it viable. It's good enough for commerence today, next year it is in such bad shape, they got to tear it down? Your replacing Lakewood Landmarks with a shiny generic structures, that is the real shame. ie: the Detroit Theater
I travel down Madison Avenue, I see where once there were classic 2 or 3 story buildings built side by side, then every now & then, there is a modern bland apartment in it's place. There's nothing attractive, nothing special, no character, they don't fit the existing storescape, what is up with that?
The new Drug Mart on Detroit road, before it was built, there was beautiful brick classic 4 story, 8 suite apartment building, now it's a parking lot. oh well.

Jackie, you bring up a point that should not be overlooked. I fear many in Lakewood are too anxious to go after the shiny new building. The Cleveland Clinic to me of late has constructed some of the most god-awful structures. The Avon Clinic looks like something a child constructed with a kit, with the weird shrubbery pattern along the freeway-facing side. You go inside and it's all very white, with lots of wasted space. The waiting rooms are expansive, with lots of TVs. The exam rooms are teeny, tiny, and the staff in my experience, constantly complain about the design.
My gut reaction to the proposal in the LOI was first, WTF, and then, we don't want the clinic to build ANYTHING in Lakewood. Many of us who live here do so because we like the compact streetscape of a streetcar suburb. I keep thinking the powers that be want amenities that fit in a sprawling suburb like Westlake. I often wonder why they don't just move away if that's their preference rather than destroy the heart and soul of the community.

There is no reason to give the Cleveland Clinic a prime piece of real estate in downtown Lakewood for a cheesy Medical Office Building. 16 doctors? give me a break.
If the Clinic needs to relocate its offices on Madison and Detroit then let them use their own money and their own land.

No worries. There will be no family health center built by CCF on the hospital site. The door has closed. It's over for CCF on that scenario.
The hospital is viable. Capital is freely available for renovations.
The Clinic is in a glass box.
If they want to stay and keep market share, they will need to pay.
If they somehow want out, which is unlikely, they will still need to pay for the damage they caused.
It's not that complicated but it will take good and honest leaders to execute.

Brian
This IS THE PROBLEM, as you point out, we will not control the clinic. They will stay or go,
they will pay or fight it.
HONEST, TRANSPARENT, ETHICAL Government is the key to a community's health, and wellness.
Far more than anything else in this discussion.

This post was started last year the last time Build Lakewood's Jim Kenny wrote an editorial in the Lakewood Observer contained multiple falsehoods.
Jim Kenny is at it again--I will be responding to his lasts Build Lakewood falsehoods later.

On their new Facebook page Linda Bebe is writing that Metro never made an offer to operate a full service hospital.
If this deal is so great why all the lies?

Surely, you jest?
Are their followers THAT stupid?
Can you post a link to the offer on the page?
Oh, that's not allowed!! No comments or posts that challenge them!

Bill,
Isn't it amazing that Summer's appears to pull out all his friends at election time to spread more lies. As for Linda Beebe, perhaps she should be paying more attention to her School Board job, seeing as the schools are at least 60 million over budget. With the hospital and home scandals that appear to be happening in Lakewood, I believe that it appears maybe our school district should be invested for improprieties also.
As for the seemingly illegal and immoral hospital deal, I would bet money that as soon as the Family Health Center is built, the Urgi- Care will no longer exist. A town of our size will always need a hospital. Even if it is a smaller version. The Urgi-care certainly cannot perform any sort of surgery and if a patient delivering a baby starts to hemorrhage, I doubt they could transport in time to save the mother. Let us never forget, what appears to be,a terrible fate that Norman suffered after he was taken to the Urgi- Care. He is no longer here to tell his story! If you need an aspirin, a band-aid or an alka selzer, the Urgi- Care is your kind of place.
Lord Lakewood believes that if he has his "buddies" try to disrupt the Deck with BS, that folks in Lakewood will vote his way. Sorry Lord, I am afraid we have a lot more ammo and are much more aware of what you and council have done to this city. Perhaps Mr. Summers would like to explain what appear to be discrepancies in the voting from the last election!

From Lakewood Voters for Progress:
"Maybe you’ve heard the claim that MetroHealth wanted to operate Lakewood Hospital. It’s just not true. According to a national health care consulting group, “MetroHealth reportedly expected to utilize Lakewood Hospital as an overflow facility while it renovated its own hospital” and “The organization would not commit to retaining the Hospital as an acute care facility over the long –term” Huron Report, p. 42."
Then they posted a link to the Huron report with highlights:

"It's just not true" applies to the above. We've talked about the Metro proposal often and it was for a full-service hospital.

Like I said before, it appears that our city leaders not only made an illegal deal to sell our hospital, but appear to now be stealing homes from the elderly, terminally ill, blacks, etc. Now we have a School Board official appearing to be spewing more BS about the CCF plan. The "ER" is an Urgi-care, they do not perform surgery, and certainly not equipped to handle delivering babies should hemorrhaging occur. I believe that 50,000 plus citizens deserve a small hospital with a REAL emergency room. A gentleman lost his life at the Urgi-Care because it appears they were not equipped to handle his emergency, nor transport him in time. This could have been one of us or one of our family members.
Citizens need to look at the CCF deal that obviously does not meet the needs of our citizens. Lord Lakewood and Company have taken over folks and we better start paying attention before we lose our entire city. Lord will just go take his seat that is reserved for him by Armond at the county.
They appear to have stolen our hospital. They appear to be stealing homes from the sick, poor, black, Arabic, etc. We now appear to have a School Board that has allowed the budget for the new schools to go way over the allotted budget, making we believe that a professional investigation is in order. We also have what appears to be improprieties in the votes that were cast last election.
We will never get a hospital from CCF. They will close the Urgi-Care after the Health Center is built. We have inadequate and poor quality healthcare in Lakewood now. Word is spreading fast. I think that with the schools, our housing , our hospital, and what appears to be, possible vote tampering, that we need to take our city back. I believe these people in the Summer's Mafia, minus the guns, will reap their rewards and leave us with a raped city.

Because I always look for thought leadership in healthcare from entrenched school board insiders.

See my above two posts. It should shed some light on what appear to be illegal and immoral things that the Summer's Mafia, minus the guns, appear to be doing in our city. I believe that most School Board members are a part of his mafia.

Ms. Allen, oh I get it. My point is that the entrenched insider school board member that is Ms. Beebe maybe best stay in her lane and focus on not messing up the Lakewood City Schools. Yet she attempts to use her public position and political capital(?) to make a statement on healthcare, and I doubt that many if any recognize her as a subject or content expert.
