Please keep in mind that much like the Observer, the Lakewood Democratic Club is a volunteer organization.

The Observer doesn't have a cigar-chomping editor that "assigns stories" like Perry White or J. Jonah Jameson.
The Observer is the product of volunteer writers and photographers that offer their works to the project.

In the same sense, the LDC does not have a "boss figure" like Old Man Daley picking candidates for various offices.
What generally happens is that candidates come to the club and try to get their endorsement in election years. This is done by a vote of members on endorsement night. Candidates have often done this by getting as many friends and relatives as possible to attend the annual "endorsement meeting".
Like the Observer, club endorsements reflect the efforts of whichever folks happen to participate at a given meeting.

Michael, Since you have such a strong handle on this, perhaps you could walk us through the process that results in no minority councilpersons or even to the best of my knowledge, serious candidates. Any suggestions for making the process more inclusive?

The name Juris might be Latvian. They are some sort of Baltic or Slavic race.

Most arabs technically count as "white" on the census.

Several of the names sound Irish. I remember when it was still okay to be racist against Irishmen.
