Looks like Nate called Mike, who in turn called Joe, who called his crew.

Jim,
The new City Hall rule is that students can walk in the street (and traffic) if there is snow on the sidewalks, but students can't walk in the street (and traffic) if there isn't snow on the sidewalks.

Was there snow on the sidewalk?

Fear.
The purpose is for residents to fear City Hall, Jim.

So you complain when sidewalks don't get shoveled and you complain when the oppressive tyrants enforce the laws. At least you're consistent, you always complain.
I'm curious when this mindset developed that walking in the street was an option. My impression is that the condition of the snow covered sidewalks are no worse that they were 30 yrs ago when I was a student. It was and still is the rare sidewalk that is shoveled along Franklin and Hilliard. I did notice the city mine plow doing the sidewalk along Hilliard a couple weeks ago, seems to be only an occasional service though.
Mr. O'Bryan or Mr. Kelly shouldn't get to much credit for the clean-up at Crest lane. The city crews have been removing mounts of snow and cleaning the corners throughout the city since the snow has pretty much stopped.

Bitter much, Bill?
I do complain about not shoveling sidewalks.
I shovel my sidewalk. And I shovel your dad's sidewalk, too. Actually, Katie does.
I don't complain about enforcing laws.
I do complain about not enforcing laws.
I do complain about a silly illegal exception that encourages kids to walk in busy streets rather than going after folks who don't shovel sidewalks.
And I do complain about tyrants.

Mr. Trental.
I certainly hope you don't think I was taking credit. I am sure Mr. Kelly doesn't want credit either.
We clean our walks because it is right thing to do and our legal responsibility.
I know it is odd, but the neighborhood actually seems to enjoying shoveling and helping each other.
I did not complain about the pile the city crews had left behind. They were working their
asses off for long stints, and it is far more important to make the path then clean up the path.
I was curious about cracking down on those without clean walks, or for walking in the
streets, getting plowed in etc. I mean, it's the pot calling the kettle black.
I merely posted the photo of them picking it up as a thank you.
It was not about Nate, It was not about Jim, it was an honest thank you to hard working
crews that are trying to do more with less through no fault of their own.

Not Bitter.
Just my observation of this board, always complains, never solutions.

Thank Katie for covering my parents walk.
Now you are just being silly, Billy.
I've talked the talk and walked the walk.
You know that.
And Katie says, "anytime."

Bill
I have to admit, I don't have solutions like yours.
Quit complaining.
But I am trying.
You have to believe that.

Funny how I was noticing this around 6 pm tonight.

The new Family Dollar!

Panera

Chamber

A locally owned business that cares about the image they are putting out there. They wanted to make sure their
sidewalks were clean and safe, and their the customers can park, get out and walk into the business or any business
around them. Drive down Detroit, some of the smaller businesses have done marvelous jobs. No block better than this one.
If you look to the right in the back you will see huge snow piles.

Thanks for bringing this back on topic, Jim.
While one is better than the other, both sidewalks appear walkable. Yes? No?
So, students will be getting tickets for walking the streets in front of either business. Yes? No?

Yes, Sweet Designs does a wonderful job outside of their shop too.
Somewhere I saw that the City has visited homes that had not cleared their public sidewalks. Does anyone know if these homes were given anything more than a suggestion to clear the walks? To me, a 48 to 72 hour time frame after a warning/reminder to clear the walk would be adequate, then let the fines begin.
