Danielle,

Unfortunately lakewood is not safe for republican signs. The most extreme cases for me were 8 years ago when I had a 4 feet by 2 foot vinyl bush sign with a pvc frame. People destroyed it with baseball bats multiple times. My family was also violently sworn at by drivers passing my house days before the election. This city is full of progressive "open minded" people that can't stand people that disagree with them. I have not even bothered to put up any signs this year yet,I will a week before the election.

Btw Jim, your wife's sign in your newspapers window is not the same at all... But glad to see it still bothers you. ;)

Ryan

You can bully Deb all you want, but I have never stopped anyone else here, or
anywhere for that matter, from trying to express themselves. But a whole lot of people
seem desperate to stop the O'Bryans from voicing opinions, political or otherwise. Matter
of fact you could say the O'Bryans have dedicated the last ten years of their lives making
sure everyone's voice is heard. Yet some small-minded people still want to shut us up.

Pitiful.

As for your Republican sign comment. This morning I woke up to find out we had been
visited by sign thieves too. Probably from the Czech Republic, they stole 2 Nickie Antonio
signs, and 1.5 Obama signs. Or, they blew off in the wind. No matter, we'll put up the
replacements today, and as often as needed.

They will not win, even if it is just the four winds.

Danielle, I will not be voting for Romney, but while I am out picking up signs, you want me
to grab you a Romney sign or two? Danielle, you should do what I do, get a kid in the
neighborhood with Pink Eye to lick the edges. Then just look for stupid juvenile adults,
and see if they have pink eye.

No matter who you vote for I would rather have you voting than not voting, and if you are
voting I want you informed on the choices.

FWIW

PS - I do not think Ryan Salo is bullying Deb, and no I do not have kids with Pink Eye lick
the edges of the signs. Just lick their hands before they put the signs in the ground.
The world needs to lighten up.

Oh I was just reminded that my "break for kids" sign was stolen (or wind blown since I don't know for sure). I am picturing a garage somewhere with all these signs in them...lol.

I only wonder how much faith you have in "your guy" if you have to resort to removing the competetions signs.

Councilman jailed for stealing Romney campaign signs

The D's are getting more desperate. Glad we don't have any council members that would get drunk and do stupid stuff... ;)

I picked up a yard sign for my parent's house yesterday while I was out running some other errands. I did not get one for myself, as I do not have a yard.
It was gone less than 24 hours later. My mother drove out to get new ones...several new ones.

I suggested a police report, as was mentioned here previously.

Am I the only one reading this that thinks it is absurd "Lakewood" as a whole is being blamed for one yard sign (or a handful) missing from a yard? Danielle when you switched from Republican to Democratic last election you were very public about it on forums and publicly expressed your (rightful) disappointment in the abandonment of many friends who were Repbulican. I remember reading blogs of exchanges of supports from Democrats. If you have changed your mind and went back to voting Republican, that is your right and many in the country change their mind depending on circumstances. That is why I hate the labeling system we love to use in this country, to put everyone in a nice little box that we can stereotype.

The truth is there is little to no tolerance in this election on either side. Ohio is split as closely as it can get. We each have our reasons for voting our way and each should be respected for that. If I chose one issue (since issues were brought up on this thread) I would choose the threat of abortion being taken away except in the situation of rape. Because I often work with young females who are victims of rape or sexual abuse, I could not imagine living in a world where they would have to be further victimized to "prove" they were raped in the case they got pregnant. If I had to choose only one issue out of the many hot topics on the table, that comes first, before taxes/money which none of us want to pay more of regardless who wins.

There are bullying movies and campaigns going on around Lakewood for our children right at this very moment and it is important to remember anytime we stereotype a group of people "those liberals..." the city of "Lakewood..." All democrats or all repbulcans...." it is a form of stereotyping and labeling and our children need to learn that this type of thinking is exactly what leads to racism or bullying.

My neighbor's Republican's signs have not been touched since he put them up. I still wave and say good-morning when I see them and would never think of taking his sign while walking my dog late in the evening, so please refrain from labeling all of Lakewood or all the D's in Lakewood. We all partake in many events in the city together, pay the same taxes and fight the same for our schools. We are not enemies.

Beautiful!

I have a family down the street hard core R, signs all over, one is missing, he blames no one
I mean why take one, when 6 others stay up.

A mormon family down the street has had a Romney sign up since day one. Their family
still comes down and gathers in our front yard right next to those terrible Democrat signs
to watch the sunset every now and then. They haven't taken our signs, and I would hope
no one would take theirs.

Democrats are getting desperate?

Maybe delusional if anyone thinks a stolen yard sign matters, except to the person that
had their right to free speech stepped on.

What always gets me is I know many Rs, and they really like to shut people down. Ds
seem open to the discussion. On the other hand Rs still throw the best parties. Even the
rallies are better. Obama, bottle water maybe. Romney, food, chips, soda, water...

Who cares?

JUST VOTE.

I loved the Charity dinner tonight where they got to make fun of themselves. I really laughed which was greatly needed in this heated and often ugly debate. I loved that Obama called Mitt a great husband and father and reminded everyone that those were the two most important titles. It puts the yard signs into perspective and I have never been swayed on my vote based on a yard sign.

I hid them.

I'll put them back up in 3 or 4 weeks.

With all due respect, Jimmy, that’s a bunch of malarkey.

Name one elected, Lakewood Republican who “really like[s] to shut people down.”

Okay, now name the elected, Lakewood Democrats who “really like to shut people down.”

Do you really believe that elected, Lakewood Democrats “seem [more] open to the discussion” than elected, Lakewood Republicans?

That's true.

Agreed!

Thanks for sharing.

I wish the whole campaign could have been as cordial and focus on the issues rather than trying to tear down the character of two fine Americans.
